90 gr Bergers and Varget

@Bc’z I use a .104 with the 80 Dominator and it’s as perfect as can be. I can send you a photo if you want. DM me.

That’s .004 off the lands as measured with the wheeler method. I can send a comparison photo later on.

I sure wouldn’t want them in a .045.

For comparison, here’s an 88. Needless to say, the Dominator has a fat little nose.

Here's a 80 and a 105 both bergers and .070 freebore in a 6 Grendel using a barrel gizzy tool to seat with barely any neck tension. Just enough where I can spin the bullet but I have to try. So maybe a couple of thou in, at most. 105 on the left, 80 on the right. A tad bit for freebore would be great but this is just barely off of the donut. Not much of one there due to being necked down instead of up. BR neck is longer, so you can see that this work, safely but ...you get the picture. Again though...parts are probably different in one direction or the other. Just for reference. I shoot Larry Moores 80s mostly and they are safely above the donut, where the burgers get pretty close to it.

I did just think of something but I don't think it matters much or maybe not at all. The 80gr bullet on the rt was an old moly coated "match" bullet that I don't think they make any longer. I believe they were the same bullet, jacket, same dies and all but a bigger meplat...just a bigger hp, but I may be wrong about that. Nevertheless, it's just for comparison. I don't even shoot them but have a few and was just comparing berger to berger. The Larry Moore flat bases that I typically shoot are well above the neck/shoulder junction anyway. He makes it in both a fb and a bt and they both shoot fantastic, fwiw. Just never got around to trying Dominators but I'm sure it's a good bullet too.

6BR 31.0gr of varget with the 90 berger. Work up but not excessively hot in anything I've shot that in. It's been a "go to" load for me in that combo for a while. @Shooter13
Shot 3 or 4 of the smallest groups at 500 yards I've ever seen, I posted pictures along with the rifle I have for sale, 3 groups were 1" and the 4th was 1.25", this was the first time EVER I shot past 300 meters, blind luck? Probably but a great load for a custom gun.

I even pulled an old dummy for you so you could see the line. That’s .004 off in a .104. Perfection.

I’ve been running them 3200 in a 20” and they really shoot.
The Barts 80 in a .104 will work and you may be able to get a tad more powder in there. If neck tension is a factor you use to tune. A shorter freebore may give you a little more hold on the bullet. .070 fb.

The OP was 90s w Varget so.
I tried 90s with 31 gr and it shot great [at times].
I bumped it up to 31.1 gr. , now I'm getting clickers, and lost some accuracy, the weather is a little warmer. So I guess Ill back up a bit. What's your guess about .3gr?

I fired these two groups yesterday at 100 yds. as part of a Berger 105 VLD seating depth reevaluation. My rifles barrel is well seasoned with 1800+ rounds to date. I normally shoot the 105 VLD using 30 gr. Varget but dug out and loaded some Berger 90’s that I originally used for barrel break in. I also loaded the 90’s on top of 30 gr. Varget and experienced heavy bolt lift with the 90’s but no abnormal pressure indicators with the 105 VLD’s. Temperature yesterday while shooting was 90 degrees F. The depicted three shot groups measure approximately 7/32 in and 6/32 in center to center. Based on yesterday’s conditions, I’d probably back off the 90 BT Target load to 29.5 gr. For starters.

Thanks for Larry’s name for the Hillbilly bullets, looks like there are other strings that show his contact info.
Larry makes some of the best bullets out there. Several that others might not. In a mid weight, he makes a 6mm 87 gr bullet that shoots lights out good. Since this thread is about the berger 90's, I'd absolutely suggest anyone try his 87 that might otherwise use the bergers. I found so much lot to lot variation in the bergers...Some shot fantastic and change nothing, the next lot was crap. Not knocking bergers but that's exactly why I prefer customs when possible.
