9 Twist Savage --Heavier Bullets

My Savage 26 in 9 twist 223 has been a lot of fun--I zeroed in on a load for 53g Vmax that is really good.
I have been wanting to try something heavier for longer distance--69 SMK are very popular, many say the 73 Berger is the best I can do in that rifle--and many say the 77 SMK will get the job done BUT those bullets are very hard to locate
My local shops all seem to have plenty of the Hornady 73 ELD--popular it seems for AR shooters--fits the mag or whatever
Has anyone had good luck with them in 9 twist bolt gun--Load info? I have Varget, 8208XBR, Tac, and N133
Looking for a good load for 400-600 yd play and maybe PD past where my 53 will do
My rifle seems to do great with regular mag length type seating depth--it has not shown any love for near the lands at all
with anything I have done so far
Thanks!!

I needed to go for a 7thou jamb in my old 9tw Savage. And a hefty load of Varget. (25.4g). Shot well to 600yd.
Fussy on primers though, always needed CCI BR. I now run a custom Tikka, 8 tw. With Hornady eld-M. 15 thou jump. Much better.

I'm shooting my wife's older Savage 110 FP with 24" heavy 1:9.
We usually shoot the 69gr SMK over Alliant PP2000MR.
Tried the lighter (53gr TMK i think) with W748. Shoots just ok at 100 yards.
Last i was out with it i was trying the 70gr Nosler RDF jumping 0.030". Those over the PP2000MR also.

Haven't tried it to 600 yards. Limited optically. But might be willing to try with the newish scope.

My 12fv im using 73eldm loaded touxhing the lands. 24.0gr charge of varget. Shoots very small groups. Tried my load in a friends 12fv. It shot very well also, but we measured his rifle and has a shorter throat than mine so on his rifle my load was jammed and still shot very well. I know i can up the powder charge but this rifle is jist for fun. Dont see the poing in pushing speed and brass life for nothing. Also im using range pick up federal brass with minimal prepping, just normal basic prepping.

You have to buy some and try some. We have a 9 twist Rem 700 5R that will stabilize 80 gr CC noslers and 88gr ELDMs. So don't listen to anyone who tells you what twist will work with certainty.

I'd be ordering bullets rather than suffering with what's locally available. 77 otms are must try for that gun.

My savage 1/9's shoot from 50gr-80gr well. My 26" loves 80.5's over some Varget. I have great loads with most of the powders you listed, the N133 I use for sub 60gr, XBR and Varget for 68gr+.

Bergers 73 grain was developed for the 1:9 twist. My rebarreled 600 Remington is a 1/2 MOA shooter with a stiff load of Varget.
