Looks like a very low pressure load. May be able to increase with modern rifle and components. Close range stopper with 286gr bullets ?

Interesting. !! Minor sidetrack but. . . .. . what is the "useable case capacity" of a standard 30-06 using the same QL entry and software ?

If you're extrapolating, 358 Winchester start charges with 250s should get you to a good start. The .366 bore & larger x57 case will add a bit of safety margin. Just load one or two at 1/2 gr increments & fire for effect until you see pressure or reach your target velocity.

I found that your combination of components wasn't really my cup of tea. Older bullet combined with slightly fast powder.

I shoot everything from 185 gr. up to 320 gr. Woodleigh PP SN. The numbers below reflect a moderate load of Re-15.5 under this 320 gr. PP SN and not exceeding 43,500 as recommended. Norma brass.

My modern rifle designed and built on a CZ-550 with a Lothar-Walther 24" barrel is carried during Mule Deer season at the lower elevations and for Elk at the much higher elevations. I actually made some new brass from Lapua .30-06 cases for loads I was working up at higher pressures.

Enjoy your search!

:)

I have a large quantity of aa2520, I use it in my .223. The Speer bullets are $21/50, older type of bullet, simple cup and core, should be ok for using it on deer in upstate NY. AA2520 is close to H335 witch is an OK powder for this type of case (very little overbore). I also am using Norma brass with Rem 9 1/2 primers. I did some load testing, 48g got me too 2160fps with no signs of press. I should be able to get 2200-2300fps since I am shooting a m98 and not a m96 action.

Does this heavy 320gr bullet expand at 1600-2000 fps? I'm sure penertation is off the chart.

The 320’s Woodliegh’s are a thick skin game bullet. I wouldn’t use it on anything smaller than moose or big bears, bison etc. I shot a cape buff in 09’ with a 320 Woodleigh round nose at 2000fps out of 9.3x74R and it stopped just under the skin on the far shoulder and retained 314 grains. Tough bullets!
