9.3x57 loads?

Did you hit any bones or mostly soft tissue?
Soft tissue, shoulder area, missed bone. The skin was literally an inch or more thick. Their bonding process works great.

Pretty good expansion for 2000fps. I would bave guessed less without hitting bone
My buddy shot the same bullet at 2300fps. His was quartering away. Because of the angle he put it a ways behind the ribs and it made it up into the heart lung area.

My second shot on my buff he was angling away hard. I hit him with a 320 solid in the left rear hip, it penetrated the full length of the animal and exited his right front neck/chest area. Our PH was so impressed at the performance of our “pea shooters” as he called them, to come back and shoot elephant with them. With solids obviously.

Outstanding performance. I think Woodleigh is out of business now due to a fire.
I have used the 300gr .338 with performance like you describe for your .358

Not sure if you know about these. They are designed for 9.3x57. I got some for reduced 9.3x62 loads but haven't tried them yet. Was talking with the maker & they should be fine up to around 2100fps, but wont expand much if at all.

I did see those when I ordered the Speer bullets. When I get a good load with the Speer bullets I may try the cast one too. I am also in the process of re-finishing the stock, bedding the action and having the receiver drilled and tapped for a "peep" sight.

9.3X57 Mauser. Came and went over 100 years ago.
Uh...no. It's being asked about today. One just needs to know the approximate values of certain powders to make it work.

That said, AA2520 is a good powder for it. However, Hodgdon lists nothing for the 9.3x57. The 9.3's take a relatively fast powder because of the large bore dia.
There are a couple of ways to interpolate this. One find a case the closest in diameter to yours. In this case it's the 8x57. Loads show 40.0-45.0 min to max. In like cases you can run more powder for a larger bore. But, in this case you are 50 gr. heavier in the bullet. You could start with the min load and work up. If you want to be safer you could reduce to 35 gr. and work up.
The other way is to find a close in size but smaller case. I chose the .358 Win. to compare to. min is 45 gr. and max is 48 gr. with a 250 gr. bullet using AA2520. So, with the larger bore of a larger case, the min could be a good place to start working up.
I stress that you need to work up as you have no solid data to work from. It ain't gonna hurt anything to have smokey cases from a low pressure load. Just run a ladder and see where you see pressure signs. Some of your cartridges may be over that and you'll have to take them down. -Good Luck, I hope you find the sweet spot for this rifle.

Thanks for the suggestions. I ran across some info from a Swedish gun forum where someone emailed Accurate powders for some info and posted the reply. They were spot on with 48g load at 2160 fps, I have more loads going up from there (.5 g at a time). I should be able to hit 2300fps safely in my M98 action.
