Wow!! Did this post bring back memories. When I was a kid, my Dad showed me how to use broken glass to smooth cow horns. I'm eighty six now so we are talking ancient history. thanks for jogging the brain cells.Best bet is to scrape it off with a broken piece of glass....

I tried that, I couldnt get a good matchYou could try filling the gouge with clear epoxy. Sand and polish it after it cures for a week.
