I'm not really concerned about top speed as much as wondering if that bullet shoots well at 500 fps faster than a 223. Whatever a 223 will shoot this 80.5 full bore bullet at, the Ackley will shoot 500 fps faster. That's my question. Has anyone pushed one at 22-250 Ackley speeds and had great results. That's more the question.3.5K FPS sounds very fast by maybe 200 FPS.
This is what experienced Ackley shooters are telling me as well. There getting 3450-3550 with 80 Amax bullets with a couple different powders ( with 26-28" barrels). Again I'm hoping for the same accuracy in the berger full bore designMy 26" Criterion 1:7.5 twist 22-250 AI shoots 80 gr amaxes 3450+ with a case full of RL 23. Seems to shoot the best at 3350 fps though.
Ya I expect max speed won't be the sweet spot so I'll try a few different powder options and settle on the most accurate option. Thanks for the input. Glad to hear it. Had a couple guys say that they are easy to work with and aren't picky to develop accuracy loads with in there 223s.As far as the bullet handling the speed yes it will. I have a 22-243AI that I'm running the 80.5's at 3600. That's where my accuracy is so I keep them there. Consistently shooting about 2"-2.25" groups at 600

@ grovey,.. I'm hoping that, a few shooter's, will give us an account of, their "accuracy" and the Powder's used. CLANCY, on this site, has used them, at 3,345 FPS ( he said they were VERY destructive, on Coyote fur and he said that, he was giving up on them for that reason but, he didn't state, the kind of accuracy, he was getting). I've read several "good" reports on people shooting small groups at 300 and 600 with, the 80 VLD and 80.5 Berger's, in a .223 Rem/ AI versions. Like 284winner said, we are hoping to read MORE about, the easier to "tune" and shorter Bearing surface of the 80.5 "fullbore" and "good" SAFE, Load's for, the .22-250 Ackley. I'm especially interested in hearing about using,.. RL-26, H4831sc and N160-N165, Powders. WILDCHILD said, he was using 41 Grains of RL-26 in his Ackley Imp and getting superb, accuracy, with the 80 VLD's.. in the Loads for .22-250 section !They were on my next to try list back in the spring , but the old posts I dug up about them were less than encouraging.
Have no experience on coyotes but very easy to load and shoot giving 2" groups at 500 yards without any trouble. Hitting a steel spinner at 500 every shot. Never measured actual groups. Better accuracy than the 75/80 Amax so far.@ grovey,.. I'm hoping that, a few shooter's, will give us an account of, their "accuracy" and the Powder's used. Here I am....
Yea they shot a lot of great groups for me at .010 off and .005 in alike. I of course used H4350.
I have since discontinued their use, because they worked far too well. I don’t skin coyotes, but I don’t need an awful mess every time either. I have absolutely never seen anything that nasty, period.
Happy hunting.
