8 ftr , 2 f-open : awards?

I've seen the reverse discussed. 8 open and 2 ftr - the ftr just get lumped into f-class wherever they finish.

What if there is a class full of ftr but 1 or 2 f-open entries?

Do you still roll it up and (probably) give the 'class' win to the 1 open guy?

Or just say "Sorry, no class for you today" and give a class win for ftr?

I don't like either :(

It will depend on the MD. They may very well make it all one F class.

Meant to say. In this case I AM both the (co)MD and probably a shooter. The main MD knows less than me about F-class standard procedures.

I gather the bottom line is that whichever we decide is ok as long as it's explicit and in advance. Looking for input as to which it should be.

What are you giving away for a class win? Is it a club match, NRA Approved or Registered? Does it really matter? I know some people's lives depend on wether they win a $3 medal so I don't envy your position...

But.. the rulebook says for an approved tournament you must at a minimum award the tournament winner. Any awards beyond that are your discretion to be specified in the program.

Awards—All awards are furnished by the sponsor. The minimum award schedule must include only the Tournament Winner, that person/team fi ring the highest score regardless of classifi cation or category. The method, time and place of issuance of awards is at the option of the sponsor with due notice to the competitors in the tournament program.

Registered matches are a little more detailed.

6. Awards—All awards are furnished by the sponsor. The method, time and place of issuance of awards is at the option of the sponsor with due notice to the competitors in the Tournament Program. In Registered Tournaments, the minimum award schedule must consist of the following: (a) Individual Match Awards Required: (1) (2) Winner in each individual fi red match and in each aggregate, awarded to the competitor with the highest total score. Match winners may not receive a class award, but must be counted in with other members of that class to determine the number of class awards. High Scoring Competitor in each class in each match. Classes may be combined because of low entry, but the manner in which such combinations are made must be clearly stated in the program.

I personally wouldn't combine different gun types.

Back in 2018 we had a fullbore regional that are not usually well attended(F class doesn't like to move that much....LOL). Anyway we had 4 FO and 7 FTR shooters.

I won FTR but since there were not 5 shooters in FO they combined with us. So I ended up in 3rd place simply because we didn't have another FO shooter. It rubbed me wrong a little bit at the time, but then again, I'm a grown up and I've learned over the years that life isn't fair.

It's the same with DR. They combine us. There is a very very very slim chance a TR shooter will ever finish in the top 10% at a national event when combined with FO thus DR steps are pointless for a TR shooter.

It would be like having NASCAR compete head to head against Formula 1.

F-T/R will always be the bastard child of F class but that's OK because the satisfaction of earning a worthless DR step against FO competitors is priceless. Just another shortsighted administrative SNAFU by the NRA.

There have been cases when we didn't have enough F-Openers to make a class; I never mixed them up with the F-TR shooters; it makes no sense to do so.
