Rocky, you are absolutely correct about getting more teams to the firing line at smaller matches. Had this format been an option at Phoenix, I think we would have been able to shoot team.

The problem is that 2 man teams can't set records. At big matches such as the Berger SW Nationals they need to do 4 man teams, for smaller matches, 2 man teams works good.

Who's to say we can't ask the NRA to add a new 2 man team format? I know it would attract more shooters to do team matches.

Ok Rocky, let's go there for a bit. Let's say the NRA approves a 2 man team match format.
What will happen to the 4 man team format?
Will you now have two separate award ceremonies at Nationals and Berger match?
What about squadding and pit rotation, does one member of the 2 man team shoot and then sit one out until pit rotates?
In two man teams, are you allowed to have a coach and a target puller? If so, you now have 4 members, so just shoot as a 4 man team. Also, in order to have a 2 man team competition, you need at least two teams, at which point you can now form a 4 man team.

The reason for 2 man teams is to solve a small attendance problem. If attendance is high, then have 4 man teams like we have now, but don't mix the two.

If the NRA APPROVED a 2 man team format, I think they should also keep the 4 man format. The NRA and the shooting community is only going to get bigger. I think they can handle both formats.

Well if you have shot 2 man teams before how have they done it? I have talked to a few shooters that think it's a good idea. I see 3 options right now.

Option 1: 2 man team on the line, opposing team in the pit for scoring and pulling duties.

Option 2: 1 member of each team on the line, and one of each in the pits scoring and pulling. (That would eliminate bad pit service. :)

Option 3: establish a 2 man team and use there individual scores also as team match. (That would save on time.}

How did you guys shoot 2 man teams in Texas and elsewhere?

At the last TSRA LR, Bryan and I teamed up in a two man team and we had a blast.

At TSRA, We shoot as a team, one after the other and it's up to the team to decide whether they discuss the shot or just shoot independently and total up the score. The team that is not shooting sends one person to the pits and the other stays behind and scores for the team that is shooting. Then we switch.

That is a great argument for not standardizing a 2 man team format.

But what if you want to shoot teams now....... and this was the complete quote.

"The NRA and the shooting community is only going to get bigger. I think they can handle both formats."

But why do you need both formats? If they can handle both formats, then there are enough shooters to form 4 man teams. 2-man teams are only a solution to low attendance matches, that's it!

I like the idea for low attendance matches to fill a void for people who want to shoot team and get more trigger time. If the NRA can incorporate it, so be it. If not, let's have some fun and shoot some two man matches ;)

Allan.

I don't see a need for permanent two man teams/records. People need to plan ahead a little bit and organize their own 4-man teams. Some of normal shooters on my team had to bail out at the last minute before the FCN's so I went hunting for a replacement. It is not that hard to organize a team if you don't wait until you get to the match. If there is low attendance at a match having a team match scheduled the Match Director can make changes to the match program if the need/demand develops to include 2-man teams.

The NRA has had F CLASS SMALLBORE going for a year now without keeping records. But with awards and registered matches.

So why can't they do 2 man teams the same way. You never know it might even be bigger than 4 man teams. :o ;D I know right now it would be!!!!

I love team shooting, to the point that I shoot the individuals just to get ready for the team match. I would like everyone at the match to shoot teams excluding none. But I believe the two quoted statements above are true. If you attend an event that has a team match and would like to shoot but do not have a organized team just carry enough ammo for the team match and make a statement at the shooters meeting that you would like to shoot. If it's a multiple day event, inform the match director and leave a note on the bulletin board. Most of the time something can be arranged.
