7x64 brenneke vs 280rem brass

Would a improved version of a 7x64 brenneke be worth doing over a 280? The only reason i ask is because Norma is the only 280 brass i can find and im not buying that overpriced soft junk. If Peterson would get ther butt in gear i would buy ther brass. Just a thought i would ask about

I have had a couple Custom Made .280's.
They are a nice round, but I also had a few Custom .270's.
The .270's where much flatter shooters and more easy to Tune.
Factory Ammo always available ?

Having built rifles for both cartridges and hunted with both, I found no realistic difference between the two cartridges. Neither were improved originally. If you need the best brass, RWS is in stock at Huntingtons.

The .280 Remington (at one time called the 7mm Express Remington, not to be confused with the 7mm Rem Magnum) is so similar to the 7x64 that loading data is interchangeable. There will likely be as much difference in two rifles chambered for .280 Rem as between a rifle chambered for 7x64 and one chambered for .280 Rem.

For whatever reason, .280 Rem SAAMI standards are kept to a lower pressure than several of the other cartridges on this case. As a result, data found in most sources for the .280 is somewhat conservative. That rather conservative data will be similarly conservative in a 7x64. It is likely that you can reach somewhat higher velocities than most data sources show without creating unsustainable/unsafe pressures.

I prefer the 7x64 Brenneke because I have an original Guild rifle chambered for this cartridge. It's one of the very few rifles I can still use with the original iron sights accurately. The twist won't allow for the heavier, longer VLD bullets but even the factory Norma ammunition (discontinued) is accurate. I bought several boxes on closeout prices.

Enjoy!

:)

Yea i know the history of the 280 ive had 2 or 3 over the years i would love to have another built but untill peterson makes 280 brass again i figured the 7x64 comes dam close plus lapua makes it i just would have to hurry up and buy it because that was one of the caseings that were suspended

Yes 270's are tried and true but along with the good old quarter bore i allways thought those two calibers were pointless because ther bullet sizes crossed over into other better caibers.

Go with the 7x64mm. I have taken several KS Whitetail and Mule deer with mine.

I have a 7x64 and enjoy it (it's my 2nd) built on a Mausingfield with (I think) a Kreiger barrel.

It's a good chambering and I've shot it out to 1,200 yds. I have Lapua brass for shooting at long distances and is nice to load and very consistent. However, Lapua aren't making it currently so unless you have some, might be hard to find.

I also load for hunting and can help with info on various loads for target and hunting if that would help.

I have a 280ai and brass is tough to come by. Peterson said they were going to be running it last august but I assume it never happened. I’m. not impressed with the nosler. After 2 firings the primers are going in so soft I’m afraid they are going to fall out. I’ve decided to hydroform brass from 270 win.

could you make the .280 from 30-06??

Yes but its actually shorter to the shoulder on the 30-06
ok. too much work....keep checking on here...i bet some comes up.
doesnt take much to make the .284 case work in a rifle. lapua and peterson both make brass i think. I like that case.
good luck. marc
