7RSAUM barrel life?

What is a reasonable barrel life expectancy for a 7RSAUM? I understand there will be variables, but what are your experiences? Thanks for the advice.

A couple shooters i know will usually take off barrels around 700-1100 rounds or it will be used for local matches or practice match. Most won't shoot a 7RSAUM in a big match if it has more than 700-1000 rounds for F-Open. Other people's mileage may vary.

for hunting, you probably will never wear out the barrel.

We have a CBI Barrel that has around 700 rds through it. Mostly all 168 berger vld hunters it is still holding .5 groups at 200yds. I imagine it will be used for only hunting soon.

we found that the powder choice will affect barrel erosion, 4350 seems to be hardest on barrels, H1000 is easier, also how hot you load has an affect, hot loads of 4350 might get you only 700 rounds, moderate loads of H1000 might go twice that.

Thanks for the info. A straight .284 is sounding better all the time.

Most guys are not shooting the 180s that fast anyways. Most guys are in the low 2800's. There are a few guys shooting them in the low-mid 2900's, but you can do that with a 7 Walker or 284 Shehane.

Haven't gotten over 1100 rounds on one without loss of accuracy, but I push them for everything they have

In 1000 yard BR most barrels are losing enough accuracy by 5 to 700 rounds that they need rechambered or you aren't going to win much anymore. The 300 WSM is the one where I get the most rounds out of before accuracy fall off. Matt

I second the WSM for being the cartridge that gives the most while taking the least, they aren't hard on barrels (my friend won IBS shooter of the year while back) and when he did set a few record that have since been broken but he started the year at over 2000 rounds and it was over 3000 at the end of the year. I have one set up for hunting that will shoot in the .1's at over 3000fps with a 208 amax.
