7PPC

Just brainstorming outloud so to speak. I enjoy shooting the 6ppc. I do not shoot competatively, but I sure do enjoy shooting the cartridge. 6PPC has such a low recoil and the groups are generally small if I do my part. Its a rewarding feeling to see a small five shot group. I was just thinking while I was shooting my 6PPC this morning, I wonder how a .220 russian necked up to 7mm would shoot. Is there a 7PPC wildcat? Wildcatters been wildcatting long beofore I was born. I am sure there is a 7PPC reamer. I have an extra Sako 6PPC tight neck rifle I could rebarel. I will need to have barrel chambered for it. Maybe need a longer action for the longer 7mm bullets and a faster twist too. Medium action and 9 twist barrel in 7mm. I am probably missing a lot of stuff here, but I am curious.

I live in the smaller cased 7mm arena, and as Jimmy pointed out,
bullets are the largest problem. You have to look to see what varmint
bullets are available. Speer makes a 110FB, and Sierra makes a 100FB,
which I used on a necked down 7.62x39 case. I was able to achieve
3100 fps with a 15 twist barrel and short action Savage. I moved on to
shortening the 284 Winchester cases, and put the AK round aside.
Them short varmint bullets are thin skinned and you have to take a
good look at twist rates or you'll be having them come apart mid flight.

LOL yeah I can see the poof cloud out their around 50 yards out of my barrel now. LOL
I forgot about the too high of twist and self digesting of the bullets from too high of rpm. Still fun to think about though.

There are, a few more, good options with, lighter weight, 6.5 Bullets, mfg. by Sierra and Berger,.. IMO
I'd try, a 1-12 or, 1-14 Twist barrel with, a lite, 6.5 bullet for SR, BR

I half glanced at that idea but this world does'nt need a micro Creedmoor...lOL

One of my misgivings was not to start making 7mm BR bullets. When I
closed the shop and retired, that was it. I talked to a lot of people making
bullets. and the only thing of interest was making the long range, high BC
bullet. Alway's wondered why there was never any sway towards the 7BR
as long as that case has been around. Sierra did make a 130 grain Match
King and took it out of production. I own the vary last lot off their shelves.

Fuj,..
You SURE about, not needing, a super accurate, 6.5 Micro Creedmoor, shooting Berger 120's, 123 gr. Sierra's or, 123 gr. ELD-M's into,.. lil tiny, "BugHoles" ?
Hornady Markrting, could make this "Thing",.. Shine,.. LOL !
Agreed, It's gonna be Tough to, keep up with,.. a 6 PPC, as LOTS of, "Good" 6mm BR Bullets, avail !

7PPC was popular in handgun metallic silhouette. I have a Wichita long ranbe pistol chambered in 7PPC. Other than the usual issues of fireforming and establishing the right length to get the bullet into the lands, it seems a pretty good wildcat. You just need to get a barrel with the right twist for the bullets you plan to use.

Nooo..the 7BR was at least a capable round. May as well just use a 7.62x39.
People tend to sell the x39 very short, mostly due to junk ammo and the guns built for it. No doubt about it though, it'll shoot with the right components and build. But nobody wants a round limited to 45k pressure due to it being in a junk ak rifle, and vice versa.

No argument from me. I have hunted with a Mini Mauser in 7.62 - mainly for feral goats- and it did good service - with the limitations of a fairly inefficient/underpowered cartridge. With the fuel available - and I used W296, it was still a bit lacking. A close friend built a 7BR on a Model 7 action that was superior in all respects. Dropped a number of deer and goats with 120g Noslers. The best improvement on the 6PPC, is the 6 ARC - and that only because of factory brass and good 6mm hunting pills.

I like the 6 Grendel a lot too. Easy to make and no fireforming. Almost as good as an ARC. Lol!
