7mmRSUM to 7mmWSM ?

I have a friend that has a Rem 700 in 7mm RSUM. Ammo and cases are getting very hard to find and he was wondering if it could be reamed out to 7mm WSM without much problem. Can any of you gunsmiths out there answer this question.

2506, acording to the drawings in nosler #6 loading manual it will work just fine. all the numbers on the 7mm wsm are larger than the 7mm saum. I think i'd try to size down wsm brass an see if that would work before going the re-chamber route. just my opinion. ______treeman

A few friends and I have a few of those,7mmsaum's) and don't seem to have a problem finding components for them. I reload but see where loaded ammo and brass is available from more than a few places...
Sure would not be a problem to open your chamber to the 7WSM, thats the easy part...

I think he would be wasting money. Components are easy to come by and a WSM in his short action will have the bullet pushed way back to fit in the magazine. This will take up powder space and take away any perceived advantage. The WSM is a propriatary cartridge and your smith is supposed to pay a fee on each chambering job.

Thanks for the reply. It is all a moot point now. I just talked to my friend and he sold the rifle and is going to get a 270 WSM.
