For belted magnums, I personally lean toward Weatherby. Probably has something to do with being able to see the factory from my "front" yard.I'm surprised the good ole 7 Mashburn hasn't been mentioned in this conversation?? Eric in DL
My 7 Saum with RL 26 and 195 Bergers with 27 inch barrel runs in the 2950 range. Amazed me the other day at 2000 yards!! I would think a 7 Rem Mag would push them 3000 Fps +. Seen some 7/300 WSM's shooting 195's over 3000 with a long throat. The 28 Coaster should push Berger 195 VLD at 3000fps from a 26" barrel. If you are shooting at the 1500+ yard range you will probably have an even longer barrel.
If you want something off the shelf the 7mm SAUM is the best at the moment. As far as I can tell, same pressure, same seating depth, same barrel, it will throw that same 195 pill at ~2750fps
The 28 Coaster is exactly what you asked for. Half way between a WSM/SAUM and a Nosler. Easy to make brass from any Nosler or RUM brass.
The WSM/SAUM will use ~62 grains of RL-26 to go 2750
The 28-Nosler will use ~91 of RL-33 to go 3100
The 28 Coaster will use ~83 of RL-33 to go 3000
As close to the middle as you can get.
The design is free to use. Maybe I'll make one with my Proof Research barrel instead of another 28-Nosler. That would be a 24" hunter though, so I'd be throwing Barnes 168 LRX at about 3050fps.
Unless, you are not interested in wildcats.
It looks possible to reach those numbers with long throating and seating. Same as it is possible to take the 28 Coaster to more than 3100fps and the 28 Nosler to 3200 fps.My 7 Saum with RL 26 and 195 Bergers with 27 inch barrel runs in the 2950 range. In my opinion, all these custom options are too much work and expense for any gain you get. Get a standard cal close to your specs with available brass and dies. Load it right and never look back. The 7mm RSAUM has about 74 grains capacity, and a longer neck than the WSM. Too bad that it is suffering in popularity and sourcing brass would likely be an issue.

The 7 Blaser is between the two, it's like a 7 WSM long but just a little more compact than the 28 Nosler, I'll probably never build a 7 Mag again between the Blaser and the Nosler.
The 7 LRM is a complete disappointment!!
I wont speak for Bigngreen, but brass sucks, and velocity was no better than a 7 mag. Couldnt get close to what was claimed for speed.Bigngreen, Im curious to know why you found the 7LRM a complete disappointment?
Cheers Rushty
Fair enough, seems like the general consensus on the 28 Nosler is its an excellent cartridge.Ya, the brass SUXS and just does not perform where it looks like it should, the 7 SAUM's I've built run about he same speeds with the same bullets only brass lasts and accuracy is easy compared to the LRM, it will go away with the 28 Nosler stomping a hole in it for both accuracy and performance.
