7mm rem mag 9.5" twist?

Ammo and components scarce and expensive so I don't want to buy heavier bullets than will stabilize in this twist. Opinions welcome. Thanks group, James

I am going to assume this is for hunting. Back in the late 80s and early 90s when I hunted with my 7mRM there were a lot of factory offerings with bullets in the 140ish class.

If you can find Swift A frames or Nosler partitions, they are not sexy in this day and age of the long range sniper/hunter but they are proven to kill critters and won't detonate like a varmint bullet shorter ranges when pushed to magnum velocities.

168 vld require a faster twist. I have shot 175 grand slams in Remingtons with 1/9.25, I really like the 150 classic hunter for elk and deer.

I wouldn't go any higher than 168s. In my 9.5 twist the 162 ELD-M work really well. I tried the 180 ELD-M and no good at all. The 180s worked great in my 8.5 twist though.

The only thing I'll add is that 175 grain ELDMs wouldn't stabilize in a 1:9 twist for me at sea level. They needed a 1:8.5. Bergers don't need as much twist for a given weight.

Old 7mm bullets CUNi or Cupronickel 156 &162 grain , more than likely Norma and Lapua respectively , are spot on accurate and devastating with superior weight retention . I acquired K's of them from a Friend in Sweden ,the box in which they came was generic ,however and old label was 45 years ago just readable but I believe in the Finnish language ,because I can read and speak some Swedish .

Anyway the combo of 80 gr. H870 and 78.5 Gr. respectively has yet to fail hitting their mark ,out of either My 3000L Mauser or Tikka #3 .

IN MY personal opinion ,I'd say 120-175 with 162-168 Gr. as IDEAL for ANY North American Game humanly taken . Big Bears being the ONLY exception and I'm taking Kodiak Browns . I've Never hunted them but have seen them closer than I'd like . Twist on Tikka is 9.5 and I'm assuming same with Mauser ,as they sure shoot near same POA .
