7mm Mag barrel replacement

I'm looking to replace the factory 1:9.25 twist barrel on my Rem 700. I'd like to reload and shoot up to 175 gr projectiles. Should I go with a 1:8 twist?

I have shot Speer grand slams up to 175 gr out of Rem barrels with very good accuracy. The vld type bullets is where I saw stabilizing issues starting at 168 gr.

I second the 9 twist.
I have a 7mm Remington Magnum with a Proof 1-9" twist and it shoots the 175-180 gr bullets very well out past 1000 yds.

I have shot 180gr Bergers out of a factory Tikka with a 9.5 twist with no problems and excellent accuracy. Your elevation may play a small part but 175s should shoot fine for sure.

I'd get a Brux magnum contour 7mm barrel, 9 twist. It will drop right into your current stock if the smith cuts it in the right place on the chamber end.
