7mm Long Range Mag

New build in the works! Going with the 7mm LRM, Anyone shooting this round? Performance? This build started out as a 7mm Rem Mag but liked the idea of the non belted case, 30 deg sholder and the longer neck.

Blueprinted Remington 700 LA .705" Bore
PTG 1 piece bolt .704" dia
Shilen #5 SS Match 1-8 twist 26" to 27" finished lenght (first Shilen for me, anyone shoot Shilens?)
My own SPR muzzle brake.
SPR Bolt knob
McMillan A-3 Stock

I'll be shooting the Berger 180 VLD's and want to try the 195 Hybrids when available (reason for the 1-8 twist)

sounds great!follow up here as i'm thinking this may be my next build.

Will do. Going to load with Retumbo or H1000, I'll try the Retumbo first with hopes of 3100 fps or more with the 180's.

3100 is asking allot. 3000 is all you will ever need and will help on brass life. Retumbo should get you where you want though.

I have several Shilen barrels, good quality barrels and have a couple that shoot lights out.

Good to hear! I hope it does well, I have used Scneider, Krieger and Pac Nor but never a Shilen. $239 is worth a try IMO.

Thanks for the info.

Load with H1000. Built a similar wildcat when the 375 ruger case first came out a few years ago. 3100 with a 180 in a 27" barrel was top end. Case forming was a pain in the butt, so I designed a different wildcat on the 300WM case that was much easier to form and cheaper brass. Very similar case capacity and both get 3100-3150 in 27-28" barrels.

I'll give the H1000 a try. I ordered my 7mm LRM cases and the FL sizing die with the neck bushing from Aaron Davidson at Gunwerks. Should be here Monday.

I am very interested in hearing how the 180s perform for you. I built a 7mm WSM on a long action and get 2980 with the 180s from a 25in barrel. This is a mild load but it's where the accuracy is. I would like to know if it will be worth stepping up to the LRM when my barrel burns out.

I have a Gunwerks 1000 in 7LRM. My load is H1000 72.0, Fed215M, with Berger 180 VLD loaded to 20 thou off the lands. This load is doing 3050 FPS at 5000 elevation and 50' temp. This is not the hot load.Hope this helps.

What are the dimensions of a 7mm Long Range Magnum? I even tried Googling the thing and got nothing useful.
Thanks very much.

Do not intend to hijack this thread, but I'm really surprised by all the h1000 loads out there. Have you guys seen your chrono numbers change a lot in different temperatures? I do not intend rudeness in any way. I had an H1000 load that would "outshoot", as many lean on (in fps), anything in my 284 but it was too volatile for predictive shots across different conditions.

The parent case is 2.580" and holds 99.0 grains H2O. That would be reduced after necking down but it is still a lot of capacity for a 7mm. [br]
p.s.: Glad to see you are back on the grid, Tony. :)

The power came back on Wednesday morning. We were lucky compared to folks north of us.
That is a lot of powder! I am buying enough barrels as it is!

Well, I finally finished the work on my 7mm LRM last night (with the exception of waiting on my McMillan A-3 stock due in March 2013). Got up this morning and test fired two shot through the Chrono before heading in to work. 72 grains of Retumbo, 180 Bergers was 3015 fps. I'll work up until I see signs of pressure just to find the max load. My ballistics ap on my phone, has me pretty excited about the performance of this cartridge when I inputted all the info and calculated the down range scope adjustments.

I've got a Kevin Rayhill Savage he built up in 7MM WSM about 4 years back and shooting 150 gr. Nosler BTs the damn thing consistently shoots 6" groups from 1000 yds. It ain't no slouch! Load is 61 grs. H4350 with F210M primers and Win cases. Rifle sat in my safe basically up until about a month back but it has proven to be very surprising...to say the least! Has muzzle brake installed which works well.

Thanks,
I have read the article, but it doesn't have any info on the 7mmLRM.

I shot some test loads this morning but had some kind of spurattic readings on my chrono. I did have problems seating the bullets, it seem to take a lot of force to seat the bullets, almost like the necks on the new brass was sized way too small. But after I fired and re-sized some of the brass, the problem was solved. Never had that problem before, anyone ever experienced that before?
