7mm 168 Berger VLD's out of a 1 in 8 twist barrel?

Haven't tried this yet, but with the shortage of 180 VLD's...... Anyone shoot 7mm 168's from a 1 in 8 twist barrel? Problems?, accuracy? 1 in 9 is fine, but I have a 1 in 8 for the purpose of shooting 180's. (Just can't find any) This is for a hunting load.

Thanks
Ryan

I bought both 180 Sierra and Berger HB from Bruno.

Sierra's shipped same day. Berger's three weeks later.

Checked Bruno's with no luck on the Berger's. I can buy 180 Sierra Matchking, but I need a hunting bullet. I've read mixed reviews on using Matchkings for hunting deer. I need a long range hunting bullet to be shot out of a 7mm barrel with a 1 in 8 twist barrel. I guess I will try the 168 Berger's with my Barrel and see what happens. I was hoping someone here has shot the 168 VLD's from a 8 twist barrel and would share some feedback. Anyone?

The 162 grain A-max is a fine hunting bullet for the 7mm's..
My 284 shoots them as good as the 168 VLD's when I can't find them..

Ryan ,,,,my 7-07 (280 AI variant) shoots 140-180 gr bullets VERY well ,,,my loads are all at or near max. vel.----and my bbl is a Krieger 1/8" ,28" long with break,,,,the additional twist helps rather than hurts,,,the problems are found when the twist slows down,,,basic ballistics....Roger

Thanks Roger. What kind of velocity are you getting?

Took the 7mmLRM (8 twist) out on Saturday and shot the 168 VLD's at 700 yards. I did shoot them and they made it to the target without coming apart, but the accuracy suffered quite a bit! With the 180's I can almost always shoot anywhere from a 4"-5" groups on a calm day up to a 6"-7" groups on a windy day. With the 168's on Saturday and fairly calm (3-5 mph) winds, it would not shoot any better than 10"-12" groups. Now this was the first testing with no load development, so I might be able to work up a better load and improve accuracy.

Have not shot the 168's much but the 162 A-max will shoot very well out of a 8 twist. I used it for several years with H4831sc @ 1000 in f-class. Used the load some in my hunting .284 with a 26" Broughton, slapped on the Nightforce and that shot 199/200's @ 600 as well. 26" barrel, slight jump w/ 4831sc = 2850' with a ES of around 12. I shoot the 162 amaxs out of my 284 win with its 1:8 twist, on Saturday i shot a 3.25" 4 shot group at 753 yards from a hunting weight rifle.
