7mm Federal Backcountry

Performance is not even really close, I have no issue getting a safe 3300 fps out of a 22 inch barrel with great accuracy. I use 4350 burn rate double base powder. The Saum/Gap holds 5-6 grs more powder. Ballistically, the PRC is a 270. 130gr @ 3100 fps. ADG runs 6.5 Saum brass a couple times a year and a lot of places stock it. I just got both 7 & 6.5 Saum brass from Blue Collar.
thanks for that insight

If I had to put numbers on it for a safety margin/factor. The barrel steel and running a round at 60k-65k you have about a little less than a 2-1 safety margin. Depending on contour and chamber etc.... but lets say 2-1. Going to 80k. You reduced the safety margin by an easy 20% with everything else being equal.

I've got barrels here where someone did something really dumb by accident like loading pistol powder into a rifle case. The barrel just didn't split... but the whole receivers came a part. The one rifle the scope was found 100 yards down range! The two I have here in my office.... pressure was estimated by the metallurgical lab and by ammo producers to be at 130k and 150k each. As you even approach I'll say 100k.... your holding a grenade in your hands.

One thing I do have to make clear to everyone.

Federal 7BC and running it as box ammo thru properly built guns is just fine. Federal has the case figured out.

Or get it furnished in a “Sponsorship “ deal…
The rest of us just get “Sticker Shock” when they see it on the shelf at $8-12 a round…
As for Bi-metal cases they have come and gone in the past and I think that this will be just another marketing exercise aimed at “Early Adaptors”…
Where have all the WSM’s gone….? Long time passing….”
Companies are geared up to “Newest and Latest”
Will a 7mm round traveling 3’000fps+ and needing 80K breech pressure and bi-metal cases be any better or more deadly than the current crop of 7mm cartridges??? My .280AI will deliver a 184 with deadly accuracy at 2’830 and driving a lighter 165-180 easily reach toward the 3Kfps mark.
EDIT: I do stand corrected, the cases are NOT Bi-metal... Just some sort of high quality steel though I imagine they may be a real challenge for dies... "Gone to need a bigger can of lube...!"
Lee Precision now has reloading dies for the 7mm Backcountry, and yes, a bigger can of lube is going to be required to resize this cartridge.
