7mm saum

Good day all,

I'm going to make a new barrel in 7mm saum.. someone can suggest me data for reloading of eld-m 162 and Berger vld hunting 168-180 grains?
Barrel lenght is 24 inches with twist 1/9" i m writing from Italy
Thanks all

From Italy? My birth place. Tanti saluti da Texas.

Different chambers changes everything, so you need to start low and work your way up. I would encourage to use H-4831sc if you can get it. If not H-1000. Those are the only powder's I've used in my 7SAUM. You can also use H-4350 but your barrel life will be short.

There other slow powders, but I'm not familiar with them.

Buona fortuna,

Joe
Built a 7saum early in the year. Last several years I have only shot 6.5 caliber. My neck and shoulder prevent high recoil. This new rifle is phenomenal. 31 inch Kreiger 8.5 twist...208 FB. weighs 19.2 lbs. I fire formed Norma brass with 62.0 H1000 and 162 eldm. See pics of 1st 15 rounds down barrel. I let barrel cool between each shot and cleaned every 5 shots. 2998-3005 and deadly accurate. At 50-60 rds moved to the 180 vld and 180 eldm. At 300 and 500 yards 1/3 moa. After listening to many who post on this forum...I am a believer in the 7mm RSAUM. Thanks for all the good advice. A friend who shoots local events in the area shoots 180's with H1000...only 5 shot strings....1,200 rounds and counting.

Hi Joe,
Nice to meet you! I'm stayed in Texas three years ago for work, at corpus christi..
Thank you for your quickly reply and for info!!

My short action, 168 Berger hunting VLDs
@3075,27" Chanlynn heavy Palma.
Remington brass. 63 grains 4831sc.
Very accurate out to 1900. I'm at 5000ft.
Always start lower! Nosler and Norma brass won't handle that load.

Unfortunately i cannot found 4831sc powder.. thanks

Yes, I have tried various powders in various SAUMs with 180s but now only use H4350, about 55.5-56.0gns. It is true that H4350 is not great for barrel life but it does everything else so well.

If there's one piece of tip I can offer here is that when Rod gives advice, it's damn good advice.
