7mm-08 deer loads

Don't short change that IMR 3031 In my 25lb 308 benchgun 37.5gr with a 168gr SMK's shoots in the low 1's and had done a pile of winning. Some of that old powder still works better than the new stuff. That being said the new stuff work awful good too.

I use it in my 30-30 and 45-70 loads too.
Not shabby at all

I like the 145 gr. Speer BTSP lately pushed by a max load of H414 and a mag primer. 2700 fps out of my 18 1/2 inch barrel. good exit holes so far every time and deer drop or go less than thirty yards spewing blood
I just bought a 19" barrel for my wife's 7-08, I haven't had it put on yet, or done any load development. I'm curious what type of range you have with the short barrel, sounds like it's working.

Generally deer hunting for me means less than 300 yards and mostly less than 125 yards. Seems like 2700 fps is plenty and the Speer BTSP is just right for that velocity. The Nosler 150 grain Ballistic Tip is also a fine bullet.

As the title says, what are you guys running? 120gr class bullets or 140gr class bullets?? Just looking for some ideas. I've always had great results with Nosler ballistic tips from various guns and calibers and I recently picked up a 7-08 so I thought I'd work something up.
Used 139gr and 154gr Hornady spire points years ago in a Rem Model 7. Killed every deer that I shot them at. The 154gr may be better for "all" angles as they don't expand quite as much given the lower velocity, but the 139gr left golf ball sized exits on ribcage shots. All deer were recovered within 100yds.

Hodgdon Data Center shows impressive numbers with the heavies with 6.5 Staball.

Just got a Winchester Model 70 CRF in 7mm08 and will report back with my results.

Ordered some 175 Sierra Match Kings to try even though I only have a 1:9.5 twist barrel. Hopefully, I only lose a little BC but they still shoot well 500 yards and in.

ETA: Hodgdon Reloading data center indicates 2670 for a 175 with a max load of 6.5 staball

I load 7-08 for deer & hog for myself & my Mom. We both have model 7's with factory 18 1/2" barrels in 7-08. I use Barnes 120 grain TSX with 44 grs of Rel-15 in Winchester cases with Federal primers. Should be right around 2,850 fps from our short barrels. Every deer shot with this load has dropped in its tracks. No hogs as of yet. We are in south Mississippi so none of our shots are over 100 yards.

My 7-08 shoots the Hornady BTSP, #2825, with 47.5 grains of IMR 4350, CCI 200 primer in Lapua 308 brass neck down to 7MM. Its a mild load @2750 but its super accurate. I haven't killed deer with it but the pigs on our place don't like it very well.

What length barrel do you have?

My most accurate and effective 7mm-08 load for three separate rifles.....two Model Sevens and a Ruger No. 1........This group was with my Remington Custom Shop Model Seven with a 20" barrel. Kills 'em DRT.IMG_0501.jpegIMG_0501.jpeg

We have "Hunt Clubs" here in the South, The family and friends runs this:

130g speer btsp
42g of IMR 4895
Rem case
Rem 9 1/2
Touch the lands
3000 fps
tiny groups

Deer flop, near and far!

Now, find some bullets!

I wish I had 10 boxes of the BTSP and 10 boxes of the Hot core flat base for hogs.
I know this an old post but I just ordered some 130 grain Hot Core's from Midway last week.
