7mm-08 deer loads

Mine is a Mod 7 22" barrel and I use 2015 powder and Barnes 120 TTSX and NOTHING I have tried kills as quick on deer. Don't care how fast it's going but 1 hole 3 shot 100 yd. groups and kills so an ole man has NO tracking job works for me, my son and Grandson.

A load I've used for the past 35 yrs in my 7/08 for deer has been the 145 Speer SBT, 49 grs of WW760/H414 with a mag primer in a Rem case. Vel runs appx 2900 ft/sec from my 24" barrel and gives great accuracy. Another good powder I've tried as of late is H-100V with the same load. Good accuracy and slightly better velocity. JMO

What twist rate would you recommend for those 120 Barnes ?

Thanks, I've been thinking about trying Barnes.
Much Appreciated

Has anyone tried shooting the Nosler 175gn with a 1:8 twist barrel?
Nope.
Heaviest i tried was the 160gr Sierra HPBT GameKing.
My rifle had a fairly generous throat, but there was still a lot of bullet down in the case.

If you throat ream to seat the 175 out of the powder column, you may run into issues with magazine length, or extraction issues of loaded cartridges with a short action.

And me personally, i have my 7mm Rem Mag if i want to shoot something that heavy.

If you do try it, please let us know what your results are!

l have always liked Nosler Ballistic Tips since they first came out in the late 70s. Starting with 130gr in a 270. A couple yrs later something better came along in the form of a 280 Remington. South Carolina Whitetail fell HARD for Noslers 7mm 120gr Ballistic Tip. Around 1993 my eyes fell upon a Used Weatherby Mark 5 Super Varmint Master in 7mm-08. lt was pure SEX that drew me to that Weatherby. 24'' fluted barrel from KREIGER. A beautiful mini Mark 5 Weatherby action with 6 lugs and 60deg bolt.. My first fibergass stock l think. MYOP. Those SVM Mark5s were finest Weatherby rifle ever marketed . Maybe it was the Kreiger barrel? 120gr 7mm Ballistic Tips flew quite well from that Kreiger barreled Mark5 unblievably well. So well, the gun was 'stolen' from me by my Adopted Son. Somehow his wife rescued it soon thereafter. That 7-08 has been zapping those Low Country Whitetails ever since.. lt will likely be in the woods today. FIRST day of Deer Season in South Carolina is T O D A Y.

You're onta it Bill. There are thousands of 7-08s here in New Zealand running 120 TTSXs to great effect. My own one is a suppressed Tikka shortened down to 16". 47grs of CFE-223 gives ~2920 MV and they kill like the hammer of Thor out to 250yds, 300 if you need to. Beyond that, I drag my 280 Ackley out.
