7mm-08 and 162 amax

anyone have some good loads with the 162 Axax for the 7mm-08 ?

Starting points or powder recommendations would be great.

I heard folks are running them up to 2900+fps with RL-17. I'd start at 44gr.

I get 2750 with imr4007 in a 26' brux bbl 9 twist. My load is 45-46 grains depending on temps. My chamber is throated for the 162 a-max so bullets seat above the donut. Tried rl-17 but haven't worked with it too much. Initial testing got me a little above 2750 but the chrono data with 4007 was better.

Suppose you guys are talking about target loads. My Stevens 200 in 7-08 with a 9.25 twist is a dynamite moose rifle in Northern Ontario. The 154s drop them like thunder - very accurate. The synthetic stock ignores the Fall monsoons.

But even at 2760 fps cannot get any accuracy with 162s and Win 760. If I had the ear of a Savage Exec type, would ask for a straight 9 twist. I see a reference to 4007 and will try that powder.

The most experienced and succesful Ontario moose hunter I know uses a 7-08 and 150 bullets. Hunters from south of the border using various magnums are way over-gunned.

What COAL are you guys running when seating the 162gr A-max out above the doughnut? Are you using SAs LAs or single shots?

I’m getting 2800 using an older lot of N550 in my Rem 700 with a 29' Krieger. I’m barely getting any pressure signs and could probably get another 50 FPS pretty easily. I’m currently loading 43.3 grains in a Win case with Fed 210Ms.

I tried using Varget but ran into pressure at around 2725 with the max load listed on the Hodgdon website.

I also have a pound of RL-17 that I plan on playing with but I won’t have a chance to do any load development for a while.
