788 barrel question

I have a 17 fireball barrel of on my rem 700 I would like to have it put on a rem 788 action that was a 223. Are the threads compatible. if not, is there enough steel to re-thread to fit. I would also like to know if there are other problems that need to be addressed.
Thanks. Dan

No you'll need a custom barrel. The 788 has a 1" tennon that is a lot longer. The 1.060" threads on the 700 barrel won't clean up at 1" and if it's a sporter barrel there is probably not enough material to move the shoulder forward enough any ways.

2 completely different animals . The only thing in common is the name . As previously posted not worth the $$$ even if it was a 1.25 straight barrel
