7828 in 243win?

I am considering rebarreling my savage 10T from 308 to 243 win for practical, precision rifle matches and general fun shooting. Is anyone using 7828 or 7828 ssc for 243 with the 105-115 great bullets? How is accuracy with this powder? Velocity? Thanks for the help!

Might work OK IF the barrel's long enough.

Kinda slow for a .243... my only experience with it is in a 300WM where twice what you'd put in a .243 case would be a little more than enough.

I know a lot of guys are using 4831 and h1000 in the 243 with heavy bullets. 7828 is right in the middle of those two powders in burn rate.

I Use it in a 6-284 With 105 Berger moly. Don't Know Vel. Groups at 100 Yard Have Been Good. 46.0 Shoot REALLY GOOD 5 Shoots looked Like 4. Not Bad For an Old Ugly Fat Man. Trying on Up To 59.0 . Loaded and Ready.Haven't Got to try Them Yet. it's a Savage 12 Single Shot With a Benchmark 27". Don't Know How it Is on 243 ?. Butt IF You Were To Go With A 243AI !! I'd Say you Would LIKE IT. Just My Thought.

Merry Christmas and God Bless

I use 7828sac in my 243 win....shoots 105 berger old great! I'm not home right but will post again when I get home....but with a 24 inch barrel it gives me the highest velocity.

when my son was hunting I used IMR7828 in his 243 with 100 gr partitions . this was before IMR7828ssc was available . it worked well but it was a very compressed load . I think IMR7828ssc would be a very good powder choice . if he would start hunting again I'd buy IMR7828ssc without a doubt .

If you want to count a 6SLR in the 243 win category, I've shot a lot of it this last year.

I run a 28" barrel with mostly 105 coated hybrids. Its easy on brass at 3125fps. I have tested up to 3240, but was most impressed down lower. It rivals my 4831 load but 95ish fps faster. I didn't have much luck with H1000 but sure like 7828ssc. I mostly shoot long range steel with it and really like it's performance in a range of temps from 50s to mid 90s.

tonysnoo, what did you use for a load with your SLR?? I just bought some to try but my barrel is around 25" I had it set back a while back. I would like to get more velocity out of it since I set it back. I am using H1000 right now. Thanks!!!

I run mid to high 44 grains, but keep in mind that I run coated bullets and win brass. I'm not sure how much less case capacity I have over a 243.

Good luck!

Thanks tonysnoo, I am also shooting the SLR but with non coated bullets. I did and initial test with a load of 43grs if my memory is correct and it shot well but I just ran out of time to do more because of weather. Thanks again for the reply!!

Shot some 7828SSC a couple weeks ago with the 95gr Sierra Match King. It worked out pretty darn well with a good load density. This was in a 6SLR. Pretty much the same capacity as the 243 Winchester.
