imr 7828 ssc

I have been using IMR 7828 ssc powder in my .300 win mag behind 210 berger vld's in a 1-10 30 inch bartlien barrel. I have found that grouping is better the higher the powder charge. I have worked up to 75 gr with no pressure signs and groups keep shrinking. I am using BR2 primers and plan on starting to try working up a load with magnum primers. Is this normal with this powder or is it a primer issue? I have'nt had any ignition or unburnt powder issues.

I am not sure what you are asking. Is it normal to increase powder charge and get better groups, then I would say no.You are looking for the sweet spot of the barrel vibrations and the right powder charge is the one that is safe and gives good accuracy.

In my expirience with other cartridges and powders the higher or highest velocities have'nt been the best group or "sweet spot". With this powder and combination it seems to group better the more powder I pack behind the projectile. I was wondering if is a characteristic of the powder to some extent or just my combination. I realize the are variables to all components. I am curious about similar and or dissimilar results with IMR 7828ssc.

I use a a lot of 7828SSC in my 284 Shehane and it does seem to perk up a bit velocity wise as the load increases but the best vertical seems to be somewhat lower down. For example, I can get the B180VLD to 3000fps from a 31 inch barel but the gun likes to shoot best at 2900fps. And I have been surprised to find that the best vertical rarely comes with the b est ES/SD. Could be any numer of factors, but I tend to place the most weight on what I see on the target.

Howdy !

In my 6mm wildcat 29" 1-8 SS "5-C" rifled barrel, same grain-wt charge of IMR7828 and IMR7828SSC shoot into same group; w/o any noticeable difference
( my rifle, my loads ).

While vel may be down compared to other possible propellant
choices, accuracy is first-rate !

Combustion is complete, and I don't have to use Magnum or BR Magnum primers.

I like the stuff !
