77 SMK Unpointed

Just opened a new box of 500 77 grain SMKs I received from Midway last week. They are not pointed. I thought I read here a couple years ago that all SMKs were coming pointed?

Do you mean tipped with polymer? TMKs are tipped, SMKs are an open tip match. Or perhaps Im unaware of the pointing.

I have been shooting them for years. They have always shot good in several rifles. Just bought some 80s also and they are pointed.

Pretty sure the 77's have never been pointed

SMK77 (9973) has not been a pointed meplat projectile but the newer SMK80 (9390) have been meplat pointed.

The 80s are designed for single loading to be shot at longer ranges where pointing has shown to be an advantage. The 77s are a mag length bullet that happen to work for some people out to 600 yards. It would be an increased cost to point the tip of 77s that primarily get shot at short range where any advantage won't be seen.

Not all Matchkings were changed over to add the pointing process to them.

Some bullet designs and shape do not benefit from the pointing process in regards to a BC gain.

The 77 MKs do not come pointed.
