77 Gr Matchkings in 223AR

I'd been happily shooting 69 Gr Sierra's over Varget, until I tried some factory GMM 77 Gr. The first 5 of these shot tighter than any group I could remember with the 69's. Needless to say I ordered a box of the 77 Matchkings. I use Lake City brass and seat to magazine depth. I have R15 and Varget on hand. Any go-to loads with these components? Thanks

For a .223 Wylde chamber on a 20" Satern SS barrel I use Sierra 77TMK's at 2.275 COAL, Starline Brass, CCI BR-4, 25.4 Grains. The distance to lands is .042. This gives me ~.35MOA.

BUT _____ This is a compressed load that works in my rifle. I worked up to this and saw good nodes around 2780fps, 25.3-25.6 grains. I had to "open up" an RCBS seating stem quite a bit and it still leaves slight ring indentations on the ogive.
Hope this helps.

Thanks much! Are you using Varget or Reloader15?

77gr GMM is the most accurate load in my ARs. I can get very close loading 77gr SMKs to around 2600 fps with Varget @ COL 2.255". Most loads with the 77gr SMK will be compressed and I found after a point the accuracy would fall off as the load became more compressed.

For mag length try 23.5 or 24.0 grains of varget over any 77g class bullet. Super common load if you browse the CMP forums.

FWIW I changed from varget to H4895. Recoil is a lot nicer and much much cleaner burning. Again, 23.5 or 24.0

That's a hot 4895 load btw... My Wylde chamber is OK with it. 2720 out of an 18 incher.

+2 to these recommendations. Between 23.5-24.0 of RL-15, 23.0-24.0 of Varget, or 22.5-23.5 of H4895. Load to mag length (2.250-2.260) and use SRM primer of your choice.

Generally these bullets are not hard to get to tune or get to shoot well. Load development shouldn't be challenging as these are well proven by High-Power/CMP shooters.

+1 to this. 23.5-24.5 of Varget and you should be set. Another "standard" load is 23.2 of 8208 xbr.

I like ramshot tac loaded to 556 charges in the Western powders online book if you’ve got the correct chamber for 5.56. Looks like they suggest 22-25 grains. Tac is cheap clean burning easier metering and fairly temp stable and it gets good speeds with good accuracy.

CFE223, mag length in Wyld 1:7 AR, 77gr is my favorite load. I found best results at upper end of Hodgdon book load. CCI standard primer.
