700 Remington Bolthandles

The sad thing is it's probably a 5-10k handle mold that is wrong and they won't fix it. So simple and would save a ton of effort on the warranty department. That is the difference in the disconnect between people in a big business versus a small business. Just like why it took them so long to chamber a rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor when it was "the" caliber to have for 5 years. They finally started chambering for it the last year or so. Now the fad status is waning. Nothing like late for the party.

The sad thing is the PTG handles I have here are crap too. I had to heavily modify the one I installed recently to get it to work right.

Last week I had to modify a PTG bolt handle to get it around a Zeiss eyepiece with low talley 2 piece rings.

I make my own knobs

If you are talking about Remington bolt handles, They are just not attached inthe proper position on the bolt body. Another mold has nothing to do with their problems. I get my bolt handles from Dan Armstrong and have him tig them on.

They need to rotate to the left and that means material needs to come off the end of the strap portion so it can rotate to the left.. Therefore it isn't molded correctly. The geometry is incorrect as are the PTG handles I've messed with. I have a lot of experience with a TIG and can manage to attach my own handles.

Is there a mathmatical amount that needs to be removed or is it just an eyeball & go amount?

In my opinion, on RR actions, the stock handles aren't worth messing with. They are definitely sub-par for Remington. I don't know if they sub-contract their handles or what, but they are definitely lacking compared to earlier Remington actions.

Some may say that PTG handles are bad, but in my opinion, they are much better than the junky RR series stock handles. You'll be lucky to get 0.030 - 0.040 primary extraction by relocating the stock handle, but you can get 0.090 - 0.100 primary extraction by just soldering on a PTG. Just use a 0.010 feeler gauge to set the gap between the front of the handle and the bolt notch in the action.
