Remington 700s plagued with problems

Had a customer come to my shop today. He brought with him a (brand new) Remington 700 SA he had purchased from Brownells. After inspecting the action I found a .030" gap between the bolt handle and the rear bridge when the bolt was closed. When opening the bolt there was no "primary extraction". I explained to the customer that the bolt handle needed to be removed and moved forward about .024" to recover the primary extraction. You would have expected Remington would have not let this action out the door, let alone sell it to Brownells.

That is why I have gone to Remington clones. The quality is worth the extra cost. My rifle are either old Remington 700's or custom.

They're being built by the new apprentices from Alabama, prior to moving ;D
It's the result of minimum wage labor :o

Extraction timing has been an on going problem for Remington long before the move. I see as many 'old' ones that are 'out of time' as I do 'new' ones. It's almost a rarity to find one, old or new, that is right. Most never noticed it, 'till it started to get pointed out. It's the 'plague' or modern production manufacturing to meet a price. And it's not just firearms!

+1 for what shortgrass said, I haven't seen a correctly timed 700, model 7, XR-100, not even one time out of 100's of actions....
