700 price

I think it is easy for a lot of us to forget that there many folks that don't even know what we are talking about when modifying a 700. All they want is a new rifle, with a good barrel, and maybe a nice stock. A stock 700 will shoot as good as they can and give them everything they want. Many of the problems that are being fixed do not show up when shooting factory ammo or reloads at factory pressures. JMO

Yep, but it sure hurts to run their bolts and to look at the fired primers and bite my tongue at the same time!

My point is a 700= $580.00.
True it , primary extraction (if needed)
Bush f.p., a true o.s. recoil lug.
And you are over or at the price of a
Defiance tenacity. Last one I bought was about $880.00.
A kelbly Atlas is only a little more.

We all see trued 700's don't usually sell for 900-1000.

I think most people will buy a 900-$1000
Custom over a trued 700. My opinion.
Very fair point! I was just pointing out that with a complete rifle you would not be into it for $580 after selling all the parts you don't need. Last I saw a Kelby action it was around $1,100 or so but maybe you can find them cheaper.

99% of the custom rifle customers dont give half a damn about any of these mods yall talk about having to have. They shoot their rifle less than 5 times a year and dont have extraction problems, no blown primers, their leupold rings work just fine and they have no idea their threads are crooked.

I wouldn't say 99% but maybe a good amount but it also boils down what you get with your money. With an $875 custom action you get something made right from the start and ready to go. With a $550 700 action you have to possibly fix issues and then add parts like the base and lug that come with the other and then even if you don't do any smith work you are at about $700. That's short sighted and leaving a lot on the table for $175 savings not to mention resale value.

Just going by what i see every day. I dont use $875 custom actions, reuse the factory lug and havent used a $100 rail on very many (pic rails make heavy guns). Most builds are with a sub $500 donor. I kick em out every week and theres lots of satisfied customers

Hey as long as the customer is happy but people who actually put thought into what they want and people who are not smiths but wan to do things at home do like the small amount of up cost on the customs. I have had both over the years and know I do.

I’m thankful for this site and to have learned all the things about the mechanics of actions that I was totally blind to before.

All actions are going up equally in cost. The spread is still the same between custom and factory actions. Build what your finances allow. I've said for the average shooter but definitely hunter, the factory action outshoots any shooter.

I definitely agree with this.
I have had a lot of 700's over the last 30 years and almost all of them shot really well. Plus a few shooting buddies had a huge pile of them and those shot really well also.
I enjoy making them shoot better (Tinkering) and so do they.
I think they were always a good buy for what you got.
I also like to buy just actions and building off them.

I don't build them to sell. I am not a ffl or smith.

Just think if I were going to get a real accurate varmint gun or target shooter
I wouldn't spend $580.00 and then spend another few hundred to have work done to it. I would just go with a custom in the same price point. It will hold value much better.

Now since I do my own work. I will always look for a good buy on a Remington 700 or 40x. Then do the work myself.
If I have to pay 6-700 for one, maybe not.

My experience with the 308 was also
8-10k rpb. Wore out a few of them.

Mostly 1500-2000 RPB.
I could get more if I loaded 52-55 gr bullets and kept them on the slower side, less then 3550 fps.
When I went over 3600 fps. not so much.

When I pushed them over 3800 fps. 1200-1500 rpb.

I did burn 1 up in 700 rounds. I was experimenting. Stupid accurate and wicked fast. I won't post the velocity.

Several Remington barrels and quite a few customs.
