700 price

This kinda sucks! For the guy's that like to work with the 700.
At $4-500 it was still worth it for guy's to purchase one and either true them up or have them trued up. Then have a good action for a reasonable cost.

At this price, it really isn't worth it. When you can get a good custom action for a little more.Screenshot_20220206-121145_Chrome.jpg

My local Sportsmans Warehouse has some ADLs for $589, both long and short actions. For that price, it is still worth it as you can part it out and make $100-150 on the stock, barrel and mag parts.

And then there’s the Con’s that you don’t get with the 700 compared to most common custom’s. No side bolt release, no tactical bolt knob, no fluted bolt, no picatanny rail. Then most likely the firing pin hole will need bushing, and possibly the bolt handle redone to get good primary extraction. Just money and time!

Why is a side bolt release bad? I always thought the Remington version was one step above the Savage in terms of bolt release

I agree. My most recent action is a Kelbly Atlas that was in stock at Bruno, with side bolt release, fluted bolt, 20MOA rail, no truing or tactical bolt knob or firing pin bushing needed.

Couldn't agree more. I think the last price I saw on a Mack Bro was $575. I'd go that route if you could get one. Caveat...I have not checked with Mack Bro on turn around time if one were to order.
Way better deal than a 700 action. I have one and they are a pretty good action. By the time you correct primary extraction and bush the firing pin on a 700 you are money ahead for the Evo.

I'm in Ct. I'm looking for a SA Rem. 700 right hand 223 or 222 bolt face. Rifle or action only. Blue or Stainless. Not Fussy, just frugal. mikeinct

Nope not at all. I would never tell anyone to go that 700 route now. With the Bighorn Origin on the market with shouldered prefit barrels available you never have to send the action to a smith. I would never buy an action that can;t have prefits made for it now. Also Origin comes with a 20 MOA base and pinned recoil lug for $875. Not to mention being able to change out the bolthead from .223 to .308 to short mag so you can have multiple calibers by just changing the barrel and bolthead so no buying more actions stocks, triggers or scopes.

Most custom actions are quite a bit more expensive than the Remington 700. They are not just a few hundred dollars more; they are double as much or more. I agree with the strategy of buying an ADL and selling off the parts you don't want.

My point is a 700= $580.00.
True it , primary extraction (if needed)
Bush f.p., a true o.s. recoil lug.
And you are over or at the price of a
Defiance tenacity. Last one I bought was about $880.00.
A kelbly Atlas is only a little more.

We all see trued 700's don't usually sell for 900-1000.

I think most people will buy a 900-$1000
Custom over a trued 700. My opinion.

Plus another $100 on the 700 for the 20 MOA base most customs come with. Not to mention with the customs you can get shouldered prefit barrels which is easy to pop on. 700 sounds cheaper to begin with but isn't in the long run.
