700 New extractor or fishing weight?

40+yr old 700 that was barreled to 708AI. The action was trued and the bolt face was cut too thin, leading to the extractor pulling out. Is the bolt a candidate for a m16 extractor or delegated to becoming a paddle fishing weight?

If the m16 is an option, who would you guys recommend?

Thanks,
Al

From what the photo shows, it is way too thin. New bolt and have one of the above mentioned install a Sako type extrator.

Either a Sako style or M-16 will work. That will leave the bolt needing some type of bushing to keep the rim of the case from hanging up in the groove where the extractor normally is.

this appears to be the result of some gunsmith getting carried away with truing.
You do not need to true things that fit air.

I would give Mike Bryant a call.

That’s an easy fix with a Sako or M16 extractor. Solder in a bushing After taking out the old extractor and you’ll never know. Many gunsmiths do that anyways when installing a Sako or M16.

While I am not a big fan of YouTube, there is the advantage when trying to demonstrate a process visually:

Plus one for Carlsbad, he's done several for me, quick turnaround, fair prices. Have him put a pretty bolt knob on it while he's at it, John

I have an old 722 that finally wore out it's extractor. I had it replaced with a SAKO extractor, the 'smith that did it filled the groove with silver solder.

yes a candidate for an M-16 style or sako extractor. However, with the cost to do it around $150, then buying a bolt on the forum is another option. However, if you want to maintain headspace on a barreled action, then the extractor makes sense. --Jerry

I would replace bolt with one that fits better than the old one, replace bolt handle to correct timing, this bolt has been bugger up to much already, no telling how much is already gone on the front, let alone the face of bolt where the cartridge rides, now maybe too much firing pin protrusion? I would want to check head space too, prior to doing anything.

Maybe a bit critical, but just got done fixing another "gunsmiths" errors on two guns. Cost to correct $740. Working on two more now.
