700 223 extraction problem

Now that we have gone full circle, OP, what is the problem with the Model 700 .223?? I, for one, would really like to know what you discovered. (What's an OP?)

I would also like to know the outcome of it.
The last time I had a extracting problem it narrowed down to the spring in the mini 16 extractor..
Seeing the 700's don't have a spring, I figured the extractor was going bad if it will not hold onto the case all the way out..
Sure hope he figures it out...
Also wondering if it will do the same on a loaded round ???

Are these by any chance neck sized, or otherwise some sort of partially sized rounds??? Have seen this do it. I've also seen blasting grit under the ejector plunger cause it to be real stiff and shave some brass. As suggested previously, what about primary??? Bolt timing problem???
There are a lot of guys that jump too soon with "not so soft" comments...but, If I say something potentially unsafe somebody please give me a swift kick in the tail.

I am wondering if the ejector face may have something to do w/ the unreliable ejection/extraction. Not a great pic, but you can note the ejector on the left has a slight recess on it face. This one is reliable, the other 2, not so.
Willing to listen to comments and hopefully get it resolved.

To all who replied - Thanks for all the solid feedback!
Regarding some of the comments and questions:
1. I'm clear on the issues with changing bolts and headspacing - have the tools. Any warnings always taken as a friendly reminder to be safe, no hard feelings.
2. Unfired rounds: Memory says they extract, but I can't recall if / how often they drop on follower before fully ejecting - I'll try some tonight.
3. Brass shavings: yes, appears to be more than with my other rifles. Will check to see if cleaning off between changes results.
4. Vintage/Build. I'll check the prefix. Its just a year old. Maybe put 500 rounds through it. However problem happened to start shortly after using.

I'm going to try it first without the ejector spring/pin (easy change), and put the results up.
Thanks again - I'll keep posting until its solved!

I had a 260 Remington start acting up and flipping cases 180 degrees landing on the follower. Took some videos and experimented with the ejector spring. Lightened it and got worse. stretched it out and was not conclusive. I figured after about 5 barrels, I could invest in another ejector pin and spring. Bought a standard set from Brownells and it fixed it.

I was using a m-16 extractor. But this could probably happen with the original.

I have a 700 223 that when you extract slow a lot of the time the case will fall out of the bolt face and stay on the follower. When I extract "fast" it will eject from the action most of the time.
