7 SAUM. Please help

I have 4 custom 7 saums that’s I’m trying to load for and haven’t ever done load work for this caliber before.

I’m using the Berger 175 elite hunters
H4831sc
Fed 215m
Adg brass
24” proof carbon barrels

Smallest group I can get is about an inch give or take around 62ish grains about 2940fps
Right now.
And help would be awesome on speed nodes or a good coal to start with.
Thank you in advance

You are a couple grains, and 100 fps warmer than my 7saum H4831sc loads. I have had good luck seating Bergers 0.050-0.060 of the lands with hunting bullets. I start 20-25 thou off and move 25-30 thou jumps(similar to the Berger testing suggestions).

I run a 7 saum, 24 inch barrel. 190 hybrids. H1000. Adg brass. My node is 2885 fps. What brought it all together though was when I put the EC TUNER BRAKE on it. Dialed it in to around 3/8s of an inch. That brake is the easy button.

Since you are running the elite hunter bullets, is this a hunting round?
And for what, and what distance?
What are the 4 going to be used for?

With 24” saums on hunting rifles my nodes are almost always 2880-2900. 26” is about 2930 on my Bart. RL23 and 4831sc are very similar. I use 23, for 59.5 grains. 2925. 26” barrel. BR2’s. 180 hybrids .10 off.

Yes it totally sounds like it’s going to fast.
I will slow it down a bit then I will have to find my seating depth after

I shot them today and slowed it way down into the high 27’s and still holding about 1” groups.
ES and SD’s are low on some charges but it’s like 1.4” groups according to the shot marker
At 100.

Will seating depth only get the group where I want it?

Seating depth can make a pretty big difference.

When I’m figuring out my powder charge I don’t even look at groups.

I find a powder charge range(.4-.6 gr) where there is least amount of vertical dispersion. Like to see one bullet hole(dia) or less for hunting rifles at 100 yards. I usually run that test with about 0.025 jump in hunting rifles, since all loads will not ever touch the lands. Then test seating depth increasing jump.

Back your load off - the 7SAUM is very popular in Australia and most guys running them in F-open with 30-32" barrels are running them around 2940fps. One of the most accurate SAUMs I've seen shoot runs at 2880fps, and that particular rifle holds the X ring at 1000 yards comfortably. You're using the right powder, just back it off a bit and look for the group to shrink.
