7 RSAUM Load thread...Post your 7RSAUM(ony 7RSAUM) Load

There is a guy in Utah(?), Idaho(?), Wyo oh I don't know. I think he is one of 2 brothers that run a hunting service. Anyway, I read 2 or 3 parts of a multipart article where he was teaching long range hunting and he was using the 7MM REM MAG with 180s as his example round. I got the impression that he thought that if you were going to hunt long range with a big 7, you should use 180gr. bullets. Sorry to be so sketchy about it.Maybe i'll remember more later if you're interested.

John

I have two current loads for my 7 saum. One is, with 162 amax using Remington brass, 58.4gr H4350, Wolf LR primer, .025" off the lands. Avg speed around 2995 avg. with 24" barrel. Shoots very well so for out to 828 yards.

Second load is 180 vld using Rem brass, CCI-250 primer, and 61grs H4831. 2860 avg fps loaded .020" off the lands. I have not test this load past 100 yards. Shoots almost one hole group.More testing with the 180's soon.

I just got 100 300RSAUM cartridge cases. So even after getting cases, reamer, HS gauges for a 7 Rem Mag project, I may shelve it for the 7SAUM. I believe it to be a better, read more accurate cartridge. Any advice on reforming the 300s to 7? Any other ideas? My action is a Ramrod from Northwest Actions. Long magnum.

Thanks in Advance

John

Was going to ask about 6.5 but then saw 7 only (again) and could not figure out how to cabcel. Oops cancel

Savage PTA w/28" 9tw Criterion Bull contour barrel chambered for 7MM RSAUM
Norma .300 RSAUM case(73.2 grs. H2O capacity @2.023" case length after fire forming)
CCI BR-2 Primer
Hornady 120 gr. V-Max seated to 2.860" COL
62.5 grains Reloader 17(safe in mine @60F degrees)
3600 fps when adjusted for muzzle velocity

No pressure signs however there is concern when temperatures increase.
YMMV, please start low and work up!

My current 24 "barreled 7mm saum load is 180 Hybrids, Norma 7 saum brass, 65.9grs Retumbo, CCI-250 primer, .002" neck tension, COL 3.060". Speed is 2900 fps. This things just hammers.

Anyone using h4350 with 168s?

I have, once upon a time; but, not any more: Winchester .284 with 51.00 gr of H4350 in a 32-inch, 1-9" barrel...for mid-range F-Class competition or the short ranges of fullbore. NEVER in a 7mm RSAUM though, at any distance for F-Class. In my view, when conditions are bad enough that one has to reach for a short magnum in lieu of using the Win .284 at 1000 yards (even 800 and 900 yards, too...well, even :-[ 600 :-\), then it's also bad enough to be using the heaviest 7mm bullet available: the 180 Hybrid!!

I've seen well under 2" 5 shot groups at 300 yards from my AR-10 in 7SAUM.

I don't see anyone using the same powder. 58gr of Winchester Supreme 780.
behind a 180gr Hybrid with a 0.010" jump

H4350 is a decent work-up powder too.

Got the day off, so i headed out with my saum.

Verified the load was still good at 100 yards, then went back to 1020 yards and shot one on steel.
The chest flapper is 6.5 inches round, so im very pleased with how its grouping.

est fps is 3070 according to shooter
27 inch barrel
6.1 mils to 1020 yds was the dial up @3000ft asl

Pardon my ignorance . . . . .but you mean to tell me they make an AR semi auto that I can shoot a 7 SAUM out of???!!!

Man I wanna move to the states!!! 8)

lvgolfer962,

Awesome. Looks like a great load to me. It was a toss up for me, as both H1000 and Retumbo shot well with 180 hybrids. Thanks for the data and pictures.

Custom Build. You need only find some semi specialized parts to Ultra rare.

Armalite built a round of 300SAUM AR-10s for Big Uncle. They didn't get chosen for the bid selection, so the ultra-rare part of the extended gas tube is the answer and was surplused to the market a few years back. Extended gas tubes are no longer ultra rare in the AR-15 world, so I'd recommend a +4" past rifle length and an adjustable gas block fyi ;).

From there you need the Magnum BCG which are out there just $$ usually.

Feed is excellent, damped buffer and muzzle break makes my .223 feel like more recoil
and what fun!

I am shooting 67.5 grains of Retumbo under moly 168 grain Bergers in a 7mm wildcat based on the rsaum case. Slightly less case taper and a 35° shoulder. Getting 3050fps and very good accuracy out of a #4 9 twist 27" 5R Bartlein barrel. This is my LR hunting rifle. So far I have only killed a short range elk with it!!!!!!
