I shoot the GB f class league matches..I don't have a saum , but i do know that the UK shooters are getting on very well with VV165 and are getting the speeds you are looking for ,PM GLC on this forum i know he has a 7saum and has just Won the GB F Class league .
Also the second place shooter in the GB league uses a 7mm saum and also uses VV165.
It is one of the more consistent powders in my 7saum. My load is 58.3 in Norma brass, BR2’s, 180 vlds running 2930, 26” barrel. It pressured out (bolt lift) at 59.6. It runs the h1000 velocity node and was about the same in accuracy but is more temp stable in my barrel.Bumping up to ask if anyone is having luck with rl23? Gonna do a improved version for a hunting gun and have a pile of rl 23. Plan on using 175 ablr since I've seen good precision and terminal performance from several friends.

I'm currently running 30 inch barrel at 2930 with same load of H4831sc and 180 vld's. Very accurate. 58.3 gr and CCI200 primer. Also shoots well with H1000 and S/B primer. Was not as consistent with RL 23 or 26. That does not mean it will not work for others and their combination. It is one of the more consistent powders in my 7saum. Where are the RL26 loads?
This is out of the same 26” barrel as mentioned in the above post for RL23. It prefers BR2’s, followed by CCI250’s with the 3 powders tested previously, so went straight to those & shot both side by side at 670 yds. The BR2’s worked out better in my barrel but you may see different results with something else in yours. RL 26 held an ideal shaped ladder and the tune/node was 61.4-62.2. I hit bolt lift at 63.4 but I’m running Norma brass and don’t think this barrels chamber was finished with enough surface so pressures out a little early. I settled on 61.6 at 3015fps, 180 VLD’s. Very accurate load... it did shoot a touch smaller than RL23 & H1000 for me. Since this is a hunting rifle, I only experimented with the temp stability from 28-62 degrees. It avg about 23 FPS velocity change over those temp swings with a consistent ES of ~13 throughout. Seems to be fairly predictable But haven’t tested it above 62 so may be different in hot weather.Where are the RL26 loads?
I think 8.5 is a good middle ground for 180’s and you can still shoot 168’s with no issues. Both of my barrels have been 1:8 and I will do an 8.5 for the next one.A lot of good info in this thread.... What twist are you guys running for the 180 class bullets?
I'm planning to do an improved version and I am thinking about using an 8.5 twist.
Give me your opinions.
What chronograph are you using if I can askI've looked for a thread on here that post 7 RSAUM loads only, and haven't found one, so lets start on here. Just got my chambered up and a little surprise at the velocities that I'm getting so, I needed some comparsions...
So far...
Bat with 31" Bartlein 1:87-1:93 twist, Remington Brass, Fed 210M's, .3195 neck with .200 freebore, Beger 180 Hybrids jumping .015, OAL 3.110...Temp 65F Barrel has 55 rounds through it..
VV560 - 61.0 - 2870fps
VV560 - 62.0 - 2955 fps
H4831SC - 61.0 - 2901 fps
H4350 - 56.0 - 2875fps
The VV560 groups were not good at all, while the H4350 fired a .741 actual size group at 300 yards(5-shots)....
I was expecting velocities quite a bit faster based on what everyone is saying...Several places in these forums were it's spoken about Biggs getting 2950-3000 with 56 grs of 4350...
Please post your loads...
Mine will shoot with 16 or 23 mine Is a straight saum...but my loads are way lighter than any I've seen listed...I'm running adg brass in a 30" 8.5 twist Broughton....I try to keep it 2950 or under with 180s....it shot a 4.5" the last shoot of the year at wmspt and honestly with the right person behind the gun it might do even betterBumping up to ask if anyone is having luck with rl23? Gonna do a improved version for a hunting gun and have a pile of rl 23. Plan on using 175 ablr since I've seen good precision and terminal performance from several friends.

This will be a heavy barrel for informal ground hog/score matches and ground hog hunting. Planning to run the 180 class bullets. Considering twist rates at the moment. Really not sure what to do there... A lot of guys on here have more experience than me and from what I've read, it seems like a coin toss between a 8.5 and a 9.I think 8.5 is a good middle ground for 180’s and you can still shoot 168’s with no issues. Both of my barrels have been 1:8 and I will do an 8.5 for the next one.
What will you be using the rifle for? If it’s for competition and your only planning to run 180’s, may be better to go 1:9.
Erik,Steve is right of course, you still have to get out and test the rifle, howerver, it will help you zero in on a good load faster.
Looks like my weekend is shot, turns out I'm not going hunting after all and I was hoping to shoot the practice match Saturday and then shoot Sunday again. Oh well, we need the rain, so let it rain!
