7 prc

ok so i have a 7mm prc rifle. with a 1:9 twist barrel.

i've shot factory 175 and 180gr, and neither have shot well.
now i'm looking at reloading for it.
was thinking 168gr, or 162gr rounds for it but i'm still being told that 175 or 180's will work in a 1:9 twist barrel! btw its a 26inch barrel.
any suggestions,on what i should try, and what powder should i use.

thank you

I shoot 175 and 180 Bergers from my 8.7" twist and the velocity is a bit lower in my 280AI. You've probably got enough twist. You could check the twist rate with a cleaning rod to make sure that the barrel is actually a 9" twist.
However, nothing wrong with trying 162-168 class bullets in a 7PRC, 9" twist.

I've worked up loads for two rifles using H4831SC and Berger 175gr Elite Hunters using Hornady brass and Fed 215M primers. The Bergara shot 3/4MOA with 70gr, the Tikka T3 did less than 1/2MOA with 71.5gr. Both rifles had bullets seated at mag length. Both are hunting rifles so accuracy is more than enough for reasonable hunting distances.

I did ladder tests going up 1/2 grain at a time looking for pressure, then started working on loads 2 grains below pressure

I might be full of it. The 7PRC and the Berger 175EH were made for each other. Any powder between 4831sc and N570 seems to work good-
I would agree. I did a large write up on tscustomsrifles (not sure if I can share the blog post) with a variety of bullet and powder combos. The 175EH appeared to be a bit more finicky than a few of the other bullets, but was pretty consistent with different powders.

If you have to go below a 175, the Berger 168 classic hunter shot very well, I don't have data published for it yet though. I'm working on another set to add to the library.

9 twt should be fine. What powders do you have.
I use N-560 with good results, 175-x or m. Another is 150 TTSX.
right now i have to still buy powder, but i have some 162gr ball, and 168gr ball, with once fired hornady brass, and mag primers. i'm thinking of using h1000 powder! though

the heavier rounds dont work i'm shooting 2 inch groups with 180 and 175.
this is why im looking at 160's with a 1:9 twist.
what would be good powder to use for round in that range??

I think they do work...your just not using the right combination Sir.
Good luck with the 168s im sure youl find something that works for you as its a known good shooter.
