7 PRC factory loads are too hot!

I
No. I've been down that path before with disappearing 147 ELDM'S.

ALL the rounds have been pulled and we are successfully using H4831sc. These Hornady cases are pretty useless also. Waiting for Petersen and ADG to get this 7PRC where it belongs. Hornady ballistician/engineers are above their production teams quality in my opinion.
I had the 180 eldm blow up even more than the 147’s in my 7 saum.
ADG brass should certainly help the 7 prc.

Blow up before they got to the target or blow up on impact? What twist are you using them with in your 7SAUM?

I have a 26in 8tw Hart on my 7Blaser mag, pretty much a twin to the new 7PRC, that I'm shooting the Berger 180's at 3088-3100 and haven't had any problems with those yet but they're Berger 180's not the Hornady 180's.

I have two new Bartlein 8.5tw 5R barrels that'll either be another 7Blaser or 7PRC, still can't decide on that yet, that I plan to shoot the Hornady 180 ELD-M in at least one of them.

The powder is very consistent 72.5 grains.
My son thinks that, it's the New StaBall HD, Powder.
His New PROOF Barrel will be here, in a couple of Weeks and he has, 3 Bx's of the Old Load and 2 Boxes of the New ( StaBall ?? ) Load to try out, but we're a long way out from, "knowing much".
We expect to, get some, Petersen or, ADG Brass by, Summer.
He said that, he'd probably load the Hornady Brass Twice or, 3X and,.. Toss it.
He has already Bought, 6 or, 7 Pounds of the New, StaBall HD powder.
The 2 ejector Marks on High Pressure loads ARE, "Common" using, a CA Rifle,.. I'm "Told" from, reading several, long Range Hunting "Threads" about, them.
His New Barrel is, going on, a Tikka Action.
Good Luck !

Blow up enroute to target
A fellow shooter had the same issue with his 7mm RM

My first lot of 180’s did fine(in fact I loved that bullet) then a new lot and few other lots started having issues, maybe they are back to being ok now?
I’d hope so but I’m back on the Berger train now.

I'd shoot, the 175 gr. Berger Elite Hunters, in the 7 PRC or, 7 SAUM for, Big Game and,.. Steel Targets.
H-VLD's, Elite and Classic, Hunter's,. ARE, AWESOME, Big Game, Bullet's !
We ( Family and I ) do shoot and Like,.. the ELD-X's quite, a Bit, also.
There have been, Quite a Few, Complaints about, the 147 gr. and 180 gr. ELD-M's at, Higher Velocities with,. SOME Twists and Rougher "cracked Throat areas" and HOT Barrels,.. Blowing them, Up !
The Jacket, on the ELD-X Bullet IS,.. MUCH,. "Thicker" at, .037 thick.

And what are the barrel specs, length and twist, are you using?

2950 in a 7SAUM w/180's is standing on the gas pretty hard, that could be why they weren't making it to the target.

I shot quite a few 180s at 3100 in a 9 twist with no blowups. I have seen quite a few 147s go poof on the way to the target in the mid 2900s in an 8 twist.

My load is 7saum 61.9 grns of RL26, 180VLD-H @ 3014FPS, out of a 1:8, 26” 5R and have never had issues with jacket separation or over stabilization.
It’s a hunting rifle so not running the barrel hot either.

R26 and n565 are fantastic for heavier bullets in 7SAUM and similar cartridges.

I had a 7PRC built from Brian at Pucker Factor. Defiance anTI/Proof Barrel. Went to the range this weekend with two boxes of 175s same lot number. Put 5 rds through it. Had sticky bolt on every one/ejector marks and a blown primer. Stopped shooting, got home pulled 4rds and all measured 72-72.5g on two diff scales. Also have another friend who has a Fierce Carbon Rogue with the same issue.
