7 Dakota on a .532 bolt face - solutions?

Advice please.
I have a "well-hunted" Wby Mark V in 340 Wby that is not real pleasant to shoot. I wanted to buy a barrel chambered in a smaller cartridge to spin on. A guy gave me a great deal on a 7 Dakota barrel and I have acquired dies and brass. The guy with the barrel said his mark v worked with Dakota brass with its .532 boltface. The brass arrived to day and I'm very skeptical it will work with my boltface as is. With the bolt in my hand I can't really get a piece of brass to seat flush on the bolt.
As I see it, the options are to open the boltface up a tiny bit, but would that make it not work with the .532 cartridges then?
I think a better option would be to chuck the brass in my drill one by one and take a little material off the casehead. Has anyone done this? Going from .545 to .532 would I still have enough room for the extractor to function?
I'm not married to the idea of the 7mm Dakota and can sell the items I've gathered, but I've always wanted to try one.
Thanks in advance.

7 Dakota is a cool case. I've owned several of them. Been a while since I looked at a MK V bolt, but if it has something like a M16 extractor I bet it would work just fine if the bolt face was opened up enough for the dakota.

As to your other solution I've read about others turning the rim down to fit a smaller bolt face. Like with a 30BR with a 6PPC bolt. How many pieces of brass are you planning on turning?

Actually I am running an 8 twist 6br on my old Nesika J PPC boltface BR gun with cases trimmed down and it works great.

If given the choice, I would always modify the brass before the bolt face. As long as it can be safely done to the brass.

Somewhere in Accurate shooter, or Benchrest Central Randy Robinett talks about turning down his brass as well. Best option under circumstances.

I love my 7, 300, and 330 Dakotas.Mine 2 Bordens and 1 Nesika V with 545 bolt face.

Good luck, Waverly

Don't let a good deal on a barrel cause you to make a poor decision. If you want a 7mm, the most painless conversion you can make is to a 7mm STW.

By conversion, do you mean rechamber the 7 Dakota to 7STW?
No, you can't do that.

By conversion, I mean to change a 340 Weatherby to a 7mm. You would buy a new barrel blank that is the same contour as your 340 and have it chambered in a 7 STW.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Edd, are you sure I can't buy a take-off 7WBY off a mark v and spin it on?

7 Dakota will not fit my 1980’s Mk5 300 Weatherby bolt face. You should be able to turn down case head and make it fit.
