Advice please.
I have a "well-hunted" Wby Mark V in 340 Wby that is not real pleasant to shoot. I wanted to buy a barrel chambered in a smaller cartridge to spin on. A guy gave me a great deal on a 7 Dakota barrel and I have acquired dies and brass. The guy with the barrel said his mark v worked with Dakota brass with its .532 boltface. The brass arrived to day and I'm very skeptical it will work with my boltface as is. With the bolt in my hand I can't really get a piece of brass to seat flush on the bolt.
As I see it, the options are to open the boltface up a tiny bit, but would that make it not work with the .532 cartridges then?
I think a better option would be to chuck the brass in my drill one by one and take a little material off the casehead. Has anyone done this? Going from .545 to .532 would I still have enough room for the extractor to function?
I'm not married to the idea of the 7mm Dakota and can sell the items I've gathered, but I've always wanted to try one.
Thanks in advance.
