7.62 X 39 accuracy

Not quite the 7.62x39. He forms the brass from 6.5 Grendel. The 7.62x39 is a couple of ancestors in the past

30 PPC <= 6.5 Grendel <= 6 PPC <= 220 Russian <= 7.62x39

I have a Remington 799 "Mini Mauser" in 7.62x39. I liked the concept of this rifle. But the execution by the Yugoslavs was poor.
I set the barrel back and rechambered, a bunch of work to smooth the action and a Timiney trigger later it is raised to being fair.
But it shoots OK, about 1 1/4" at 100 with a low power scope. I only use brass cases. Sierra and Hornady bullets are good.
I built it for a light javelina rifle and it is good for that

Damoncali the current world record smallest 5 shot group is held by a guy shooting a 30PPC ( a 7.62-39 with a 308 barrel and 308 bullets) nothing weird about it . Just the most accurate in the world.

I only mean weird in the sense of non-standard. That's *not* a 7.62x39. Can you make an accurate cartridge with available components that's almost a 7.62x39? Absolutely. I'd still probably opt for a .30 BR, but different strokes for different folks.

The 30 Major/Grendel/Gorilla/Gremlin/Walker/Yadda is a fine shooting cartridge. Here is another that I shot in a match in Lexington. It's a 200 yard group.

Many of us get into it because we have a PPC bolt face and do not want to rebate rims.

While I'm thinking about it, I do know that David Halblom, he of wind flag fame, forms his version directly from Lapua 7.62x39 brass.

That's not to say that I might not go for a 30 BR myself...if I was shooting any IBS score. With UBR being the game here, the 30 is a little on the way out.

As has been said the mass produced Wolf etc. ammo is what I call minute of barn door accurate. I have a couple Yugo SKS's and decided to load for them. The only reloadable cases I could find were Lapua and I got some Hornady .310 diameter 123 gr interlock bullets and found that a case full of H322 fired by a CCI 200 primer was ragged hole accurate at 70 yards and this is with the open sights and 58 year old eyes.
