7-6.5prc short repeater

Most of the discussion on this round is for target rifles with a freebore that’s too long to mag feed in a short action. I acquired a reamer last spring that was specifically designed for that purpose. I had a few friends wanting a short action repeating 7mm short mag of a sort. One did a 7wsm, one a 7saum and I ended up with this one. I wasn’t sure where speeds would end up, especially since I wanted a short, handy barrel length. 22” 3b Bartlien is what I ended up with. Pressure topped out at 59gr of h4831sc with a heavy bolt. Backed down to 58.7 and found a very consistent 2763fps with a 180gr hybrid at 2.950”. I can load to 3” with my internal box mag but the reamer is set for that length. This speed is with a basically new barrel so I expect it will speed up some as I go forward.

Hope this helps those looking this direction.

Its a fantastic round and im glad you were able to configure it to your application Sir.
I sure enjoy the heck out if it in F-Class .. quite the killer on the target and I would assume for hunting as well.

Oh, i've thought many times on the 7FCP.
I believe @Alex Wheeler has his version also.

But for hunting i usually tend towards the 140-150gr class of bullets.
Something with maybe a 0.060 freebore. My 7mm-08AI reamer has a "60fb" and is about perfect length for the 140-150gr class of hunting bullets

I'm ordering a reamer to do a short action 7-6.5. Hard to ignore the 180 hybrid, it does everything so well.

Its just not a short action cartridge. If I had to do one on a short action I would go with the 1.5 degree lead and run a 168 vld. Thats what I did with saums on shorts. The 168 hvld is an awesome bullet. I have killed 4 elk with them and they do the job very well. And they are very accurate. I have shot a lot of 1-1.5" groups at 600 with them. Out to 600, the bc of a bullet is largely irrelevant so long as its decent.

Good to know about the 168. I've seen an elk taken with one from a SAUM. At 2.95" it looks like they are still below the neck/shoulder junction though.
