7-6.5 prc Reamer question

Interested in building a hunting rifle for 7-6.5 PRC, I see that the current reamers are all based to provide throats for the long 180-184 gr bergers etc.. Would this reamer be at all compatible with building this cartridge in a short action hunting rifle to shoot 150 gr Swift Sciroccos, 160 gr Nosler Partition, and 152 gr Barnes LRX and provide proper freebore that these bullets prefer. Seem like this combo would make a handy lightweight rifle without excessive recoil. If this reamer would not be a good fit are there any other solutions to achieve this and any particular gunsmiths that may be have experience in such a project.

Thank you

Willow thanks for the response, Interested in no neck turn. Sub MOA hunting rifle is all Im looking for and have always liked the 284 Win as far as power/recoil. I just think this is a modern improvement on that cartridge for use in a short action hunting rifle and with brass available from ADG it makes it even sweeter

That Partition running near 3000 would be devastating… Send an E_Mail to Alex Wheeler at Wheeleraccuracy.com and see what FreeBore he recommends. Thaqts where the W comes from.. I’ve heard or read that he has done done hunting builds with the 6.5 - 7 PRCW.. a miss on the Freebore can be very frustrating.

Just shorten your throat free bore like has been said.

Make up two dummy rounds. Send one off to either JGS or Manson and have them make a chamber reamer to match your sample round. Keep the 2nd one as a backup/spare.

I have a 6.5-7 PRCW reamer with a 0.185" freebore intended for hunting. I haven't used it yet but plan to at some point.

There's been lots of times when I've seen
TTSXs and Accubonds come alive accuracy wise, jumping them .080 to .120.
It's a thing.

Yest it seems the Swift Scirocco also likes a jump of approx .070, not sure about the 160 gr. Nosler Partition.

If you must use a short action you will likely be pushing bullets too deep in the case. When the doughnut forms at the neck shoulder junction it will create a pinch point and cause accuracy issues. In this case go with the 7-6.5 prcw brass from ADG. It will not have near as bad of a doughnut as necking up Lapua. Just pay attention to that issue and scrap the brass once you start to notice it or ream it out. Short actions probably shouldnt exist for mag fed magnum cases. Its just not ideal.

I would like to think so. I have killed a lot of elk with a single shot. Never felt undergunned. I would just prefer a mid or long for these short magnums.
