7-08 VS .308

I would like to hear opinions. If it came down to picking one for double duty in regards to long range paper shooting as well as medium to large size deer hunting???

Thanks
B&W

I dont think you could go wrong with either choice. Both are close to the same in velocity, Good brass available for both. Wide range of bullets avail for both. The .308 has a larger selection of bullets for the moment, but the 7mm pills get you the superior BC's

It's a WIN/WIN situation

7mm-08 would get my vote every time due to less recoil combined with better ballistics capability in part because of the high ballistic coefficient bullets.

Either is great but if your out in the middle of the wastelands a 308 might be on the shelves of the local Mom n Pop hardware store

My vote goes for the 308. In my experience it is a better game killer and it has a much better bullet selection. If you are shooting for score it makes a bigger hole that just might cut the line and get you another point.

FOR years I've always heard of the accuracy of the .308, problem is I've never seen one, from light varmint to right off the shelf factory that shot worth beans... maybe I haven't run into the right guy with one yet!! And I've seen alot of them shoot at "HOG" matches over the last dozen years..

You have been hanging with the wrong crowd if you have never seen an accurate 308. I have not seen many 308's that could not be made to really shoot.

I would say get one then save up and get the other. I love my 308's I have been kicking around the idea of a 284 or a 7mm-08.

If you reload then the 7-08. If you don't reload then the 308. I have not seen match quality ammo for the 7-08 readily available.

I shoot an older hunter class BR gun. McMillian stock, shillen barrel, Mohawk 600, Weaver CT6. I love it. Brass is readily available. I'm using Lapua and LC match. Bullets are Sierra 135 match kings #2123, 46.5 of Varget. Just took this up in the spring and am having a great time. Steadily collecting wood all summer and won the VT state championship in Hunter class. Just took 2nd in the ME state 300 yd match. A very easy gun to shoot and load for. And like they said above 308s can be had most anywhere.

yeh i prefer .308.

My remington is the bees nees in my opinion and has never dispointed me.

however people are suggesting different calibres to me for target shooting :/

so i think it is down to personal preference aswell.
