Rem 700V 7-08 Hunting load

H2OBUG

Silver $$ Contributor
I have a new Remington 700 V 7mm-08 factory tube.

May hunt deer with it out of the shooting house.

I have 140 Berger VLD Hunting & 120, 140 NBT's

Any one have a preference for the 7-08 hunting load wise with one of the above bullets.
Will be using Varget or H4895 most likely as my powder

Thanks in advance

At one time I used to shoot 44.0grs of IMR 4895 with a 139 Hornady Interlock out of my 24" 7-08... It was VERY accurate for a light barrel hunting rifle and I use to get 2850f.p.s. with that load... IMR 4895 and H4895 are NOT interchangeable, sometimes one lot is either fast or slower than a lot of the other... Having said that, I would start out at say 42. 0 and work up towards 44.0grs.. Somewhere in there you will find a node.. If you are going to try that with the 140VLD's try seating them 10K INTO the lands to start. I also remember that it liked the Fed 210 primers. I hope this gets you started in the right direction..

43.5gr ov Varget and a 140 ballistic tip in mine.

Any idea what velocity you get with that one?

Yep, it's a model 7 with a short 20" barrel and it stil gets 2815 fps. Stacks em tight too.

I've been meaning to give Varget a try in my 7-08. I started working up loads last yr with 4350 and basically found that if I fill the case and poke in a bullet it's good. I've got a jug and 3/4 of Varget from my F-TR reloading that I'm not using any more, and with the 140s I had a good idea I could get better performance with Varget than H4350 since I was getting to compressed loads.
