7-08 and 150 accubonds

I have a savage short action and a long action. I would like to use the long action and build a 7-08 for a hunting gun. A 7-08 with the 150 long range accubonds at 2800 would make a good medium range deer killer but I'm worried about mag length issues. The long action is a 30-06 center feed with a factory detachable box mag. Will this feed smoothly or should I use the short action?

A 7-08 in a long action would allow you to seat the longer bullets further out than a short action would. I use 140 gr bullets in my SA ruger and have no problems, but if I wanted to use longer style bullets in a heavier variety i doubt the magazine would let me seat them any longer than I seat the 140's.

Just load the 140s and don't worry about the extra .0## BC difference. My 24" barrel pushed the 140 to 2900FPS. If you need more than that get a magnum.

you say medium range, to me that means 150-400yds, the benefit of a high bc bullet is not there, I and many others have take mule, wt, and elk out to 350 wity 140 sierra SBT and Nosler BT and factory 140-150 ammo..

my son 22" pushes them near 2900 and my 24" give just over 2900fps.

I believe he is referring to the Accubond LR's with a .615(?) BC. but I do agree with you XTR. For medium(?) range as the OP stated is it worth the effort? With a long action you could do a .280AI, 7mmRM, or my favorite 7mm RSAUM.

you should have no feeding problems with the LA. I have my 7-08 set up in the LA also and haven't had any problems with feeding or ejection. i'm shooting the 100-130's out of it (11 1/2 twist).

Thanks for the replies, probably going the long action route. I get some 5-600 yard shots ocassion ally, that's the reason for wanting to use the higher BC bullets. I have a 280ai and am contemplating selling it because the recoil is a little more than I like with the 140's at 3200.

Lower recoil? Drop back - a 160 at 2800 or 140s at 2900-3000.

No reason you cannot drop your load in your rifle.
