6xc with 8208/Varget/R15/Ar Comp/4166

I shoot formed Lapua Palma brass, hard to kill it.

107g Sierra

Rem 7 1/2

40.5 of R#17 is 3150 on a 31", 8T, Unturned blank, .237 bore-single bug hole, not a triangle

41.5g 3230 fps single bug hole, not triangle, palma brass lasts 5 firings

Mike Exel, Gunsandgunsmithing tuner

These loads outshot all the 6 ppc's that I have ever owned!.

H4350 with 7 1/2 shot very small groups in the 1's, right at 3100 fps.

I like the 2975 node. That's plenty. Like shooting a Dasher. Easy on the brass.

There was another node at 3075 that looked really good too.

I had already shot the brass 30 plus times. Groups with Ezel tuner were in the zero's... with .145 freebore shooting 107g sierra, .400 length neck, Rem 7 1/2. 3250 fps. I backed the load down to 3150fps with groups just as small. I full length sized every firing with Whidden dies. Long neck increased the chamber size, plus long freebore perhaps changing pressure curve.

PO Ackley spoke of long necks decreasing throat wear. I had .007 throat wear in 900 hard rounds, nobody ever listens.

It was a good Winter project forming 500 of the 6xc from the Palma brass, but well worth the effort.

I also formed 400 from new LC '91 brass and 300 PMC 308 new brass. All brass shot very very tight groups. The only brass failures in the primer pockets came from Chinese 308 brass that had been fired in a machine gun, the case heads were soft, but accuracy on the two firings were astounding.

The 6XC is one heck of a cartridge when you can take crap for brass and the barrel immediately starts shooting in the twos and below.

Been shooting 115gr DTAC’s out of a Krieger barreled TAC30 and a Bartlien barreled TRG22. My go-to load is 39.8gr RL-17 in Norma brass with Wolf primers. Average about 3,010fps and man are they tight. Played around with 4350 and Sierra 107’s, but kept going back to the DTAC over RL-17. Shoot lights out with or without suppressor.

Mine has traditionally been the DTAC over reloder 16 but it’s been as hard to find as an honest politician lately.
