6XC and 8208XBR powder

Hi guys

I've been having a hard time trying to find H4350 (which seems to be the preferred powder for the 6XC) but do have 8 pounds of 8208XBR. In looking up the burn rate of the two powders I see that the 8208 is a little bit faster.
Has anyone worked up a load for the 8208 ? and if so how does it compare to other powders (RL 17, Varget, H4350).??
Also any preferred primers ?

Howdy !

IMHO -

Powders like IMR4007, H-380, WW760, V160 would be closer in " burn rate "; than is 8208. 8208 is more centered in the benchrest powder range, as regards " burn rate "

I shoot a 6mm wildcat w/ case capacity in the 6X47L - 6XC range. And no... I never tried 8208 in it, as I considered 8208 too fast in burn rate to be a good fit for my application ( 90 - 107gr 6mm bullets, 29" 1-8 ). I do have a can, and intend to try it out in .35Rem.

I run a short barreled 6XC on my AIAW. I use 8208. I get 2900 FPS with 105's out of the 22'' barrel and have shot several groups in the 0's.

Have looked around on powder burn rate charts and have been unable to find 8208 listed. Anyone have a place to look?

Gina, you could try working up to 35 grains with CCI 200 primers - if you're shooting 105 grain bullets. That is my load for hBN coated 105 AMax bullets shot out of a 28" 8 twist barrel.

While we are at it, anyone tried H4895? Also if you have used 8208 or 4895 or anything other than 4350 or re17, any actual data other than " I use it..." Would be great.

Did have one error in my original post. When I was referring to almost the same burn rate, I meant for H4895 powder.
A while back, I was talking to a NBRSA shooter, and that is the powder he prefers, and has won a few matches with it.

It may be up to your barrel more than the powder burning rate, my last barrel loved Varget with the 105, 107's. My new barrel doesn't like Varget at all or 4895 either. It does like H4350 and RE17 both shooting small groups. FWIW

What was your old 4895 and Varget loads? I tried the tubs Varget load, didn't work well, but 37.0 Varget with a 90 lapua was great. Tried 35.0 H4895 and a 107, showed alot of promise. Too dark for the chrono, so no numbers.

Yes Panzer, remember I use coated bullets (Tungston Di Sulfide) this may require 1/2 to 1 grain more of powder for same MV. With that said I found accuracy in the 1's with 38 g of varget and 105 both Hybreds and VLD's. Hybreds jumped about .030 and Vld's bumped the rifling. Hope this helps.
