6XC + Varget

I cant get past 35.5 grains of 8208 with out pressure signs with a 1in7.5 schneider ! hopefully that sign is not from some anti gun politician

LOL. Actually, I went to a print shop and they had a piece of the material - still blank. And they gave it to me - it was too small to make much of a sign.

Your 7.5 twist will have slightly more pressure than my 8 twist. That might account for your seeing pressure signs at 35.5 grains. My primers were starting to flatten at 37 grains. And two other shooters on this forum are running more than 36 grains.

RyanS, I don't know yet. My 36 grain load looked good at a 100 yard range. I hope to get out to the desert late this week or early next week to see how it looks at 300, maybe 500.

36.0 grains 8208-XBR & BR-2 primers, 28" 8 twist Criterion barrel, 105 AMax hBN coated bullets. My chrony said 3172 MV (which I think is suspect - no sky screens, in the shade of the range roof). Thinking about trying 215Ms although the BR-2 groups look good.
Muzzle blast from the adjacent bench knocked off one of the sky screens. Since I set my chrony 2 feet in front of my muzzle braked barrel, I reached out and took off the other sky screen.

That velocity may be suspect from the first sensor being so close to your muzzle, brake or no? I set my 35P up with the first screen at 10' measured with a steel tape.

37.0 grains 8208XBR in my 30" Bartlein 5R 1:7.8 with hBN-coated Berger 105VLD's gives me 3,140 fps SD 4 @ 75°F. 38.0 grains gives 3,215 fps SD 9 but shows pressure at the primers and slight resistance to extraction, this all with Norma 6XC 1x-fired brass. I've since settled on 36.7 grains & like what I see on target out to 1,000 yards.

Hey fellas I'm a relatively knew 6xc shooter. I'm currently using 39.5gr H4350 and I'm not getting the accuracy I was hoping for with the 105 hybrid. I tested quite a few charges and settled on 39.5. It seems to shoot about 1/2 minute but that's about all I van squeeze out of it.Where might I start at with varget and 8208xbr and do you think it would make any difference accuracy wise?

For reference the rifle is a tuned 700 with a Bartlein 28 incher. 1/7.8. Pointed 105 hybrids. Norma cases and CCI Br2 primers.
Thanks in advance.
Ryan

I suggest a bullet and or powder change. I have two XC's one with a Bartlein the other Krieger neither do their best with the 105 Hybrid. Varget wasn't the answer in either never tried 8208. So back to H4350, RL17 and DTAC'S for me.

Before you give up on H4350, try the same load with some Russian Wolf LR primers.

easiest way to see if it likees those better and maybe that might be the ticket.

Love to but no idea who carries them up here. I've tried both 210ms and Br2s. Might go back and look at 4350 in the 40.5 gr region.

Copy, my rifle settled in on 38.0 for 115 DTACS. H4350, Norma brass, and Russian primers .

40.5g of 4350 is too hot for my rifle even with 95 gr bullets. WD

I've shot the 105 hybrids up in that zone before with no pressure signs. Im throated for the 115 dtacs so I'm guessing that's part of the reason why.

Its works fine, but H4350 is king for the 6XC.
I recently shot a 200 16 at Cadillac, MI using varget. Have used varget in 3 XC's and all shoot great, better than 4350.

Pushing what bullet?

Berger 105VLD, also have pushed the Sierra 107 with good groups at 600.

Anyone using IMR4350? I didn't have any H4350 when I finished my XC so I started using the IMR version, which I had. Presently, I have a good node @ 3100fps using 105 TVLD's, 41.6gr of IMR4350, and Ruskie primers with no pressure indicators. I would NOT recommend this for a starting load in another rifle, however!!! After what I've read in this thread, I think I'll try Varget and 8208, also.

Have to be careful listing loads, I coat my bullets with WS2 therefore any loads without this coating would likely be to hot.... I am presently using 37.5 Gr Varget with a velosity of around 3150. I have reduced the load from 38gr. Still very accurate and a little eaiser on brass.

I use 35.7gr or RE15 which is very similar burn rate to varget. I get 3035 fps with naked 105 amax and a 20" barrel! this is a hunting/truck gun which is why the barrel is so short. the barrel also started out as a 6TCU, then it was a 6x250, and now its a 6xc.

I recently finished another barrel in 6xc its a krieger 7.5 28" I heard that the 108 berger match was friendly to try. tried it with 40.6 grs 4831sc naked 2,950 on the crono with good results @ 400 yds two different days as well as 200yds several months later it will shoot .2s @ 100 but I don't always trust 100yd groups! the 108 doesn't have the best B C but seems to be very consistent and is available! I always went back to h4350 , but am going to stick with h4831 and see what the barrel life is this time around.
