6xc or br?

I'm on the fence between the two for my new f open rifle. Building it for 600 and under but would like to have the option to shoot further on nice days. Everything else being equal i cannot decide between the two. I already have a 280 imp for out to 1000 so just wanting a shorter range smaller bore Rifle.

Someone push me!

I really like my 280, I've only shot it in two club matches, but last time out i only dropped 6 points and got a really good x count between 3 and 600. Really nice shooting those 180 bergers when the wind is blowing!

I've been leaning towards the XC, but like the option to have a little longer barrel life, but am wondering if you burn through brass quicker pushing heavy 105+gr bullets with the BR.

Can't say how long brass lasts in the 6BR with light bullets. I shoot 95, 105, and 107gr. Have brass that's been fired 15 times and its still fine. Primer pockets not as tight as when new, but still holding primers fine. I would imagine that you could load any cartridge hot enough to be hard on brass.

If you want higher velocity or want to run the 115's perhaps the 6xc or the Dasher would be a better choice.

If I was to start over, knowing what I know now, for mid range F-open I would pick the 6BR or the Dasher. For a cartridge that would be good for mid/long range, I have to say that I have shot against a couple of 260's that are hard to beat! Just my observations and opinion.

Lapua brass in my 6mm BR has been reloaded over 30 times and it's still like new, I only use 68gr Bergers and N135 powder 33.5gr, over 3000 rounds and it's about 1/4 moa still :)

Having shot both, at 600 there both hammers! I also shoot sling so thank goodness I don't have to deal with that half MOA ring! BUT I've taken both out to 1K so if you ever decide you want to shoot either at 1K, pick the XC. My 6BR shoots great now but once the wind picks up past 600, it's a mess. From what I've seen the XC is WAY BETTER in the wind past 600. But strictly for midrange it's hard to beat a BR shooting 105-108 class bullets

P.S. my highest count Lapua BR brass is 18, primer pockets are fine, shot just as get as when I bought it.

I have both...12 twist high mileage 6BR...8 twist 6XC lower miles

p/dogs are my game...the XC decribed as the 6BR 'magnum'

yes I agree to that...brass & dies for both are excellent...although the

6BR using Lapua is a no brainer...my original Lapua brass after 10 yrs

is still tight & strong..at least 40 loadings...Norma is the only formed XC

brass out there...I have used Lapua 22-250 for my XC..along with Win...

which is better ? I like 'em both..the XC will send an 87 V max out there

a long way and cuts wind better than the 6BR using the 70 NBT or 75 V

max......but there must be a reason the 6BR has higher miles..both are

Pac Nor tubes....Savage s/shots...

I went through this exercise recently myself. I had all but settled on the 6XC before I started asking questions here, but nevertheless 6XC and BR were both considered. For me, because the primary goal was 1000 I chose the 6XC. There were other factors as well, like the donor gun, but again capacity and MV was one of the primary reasons I chose the 6XC. That said, everything I've read here and elsewhere all says that if it's 600 or under, 6BR is king. Period. No debate. Since that is your criteria, I think I'd lean towards the BR vs. the 6XC.

I do have a 30" 8 twist Hart on order which should be here shortly. First time going back to hart in about 3 years. They have always shot extremely well for me.

I was looking at neck lengths also I see the BR is about 0.017" more in length. Not a huge difference but a little longer neck never hurts right?

spitfire_er,

6BR If you think your need more speed go with a 6BRX or Dasher. I did the 6XC and it would run with the 6BR
